Just curious who's been trying what with their Win7 installs so far. I'm currently running the Win7 out-of-box drivers + Windows Update. Haven't installed any 3rd party drivers, not sure what/if I should since everything is detected.

Only drawback so far I've seen is the nvidia WDDM drivers available off Windows Update don't appear to support PhysX.

I think nvidia is working very closely with Win 7 to make sure stuff works check nvidias site. And I only had to install 3 drivers after the install, and windows updated everything else.

All my drivers were installed from Windows Update except one. The exception was a printer driver for a networked printer which was obtained automagically during set up from the Vista system the printer is actually hooked up to.

This experience is like night and day compared to when I was beta testing Vista three years ago.

I installed the 185.20 Vista x64 beta Nvidia drivers, however that was strictly for performance. I did not have too.

Interestingly i DID have to install the Intel SM Bus controller for my IP35-pro. It didnt get that by itself.

Everything else OOB.

This is exactly my experience, including the network printer stuff. I love that I don't have o bother with drivers, everything just works. My Wacom tablet, wireless mouse, MP3 player, microphone, webcam, touchpad and card reader work flawlessly without me having to fuck around with drivers. Winner.

Edit - actually now that I think about it, I did have to install my Wacom tablet drivers to make it work properly. My bad.

ATI's latest driver (8.12) Display Driver is flat-out broken.
The one that Win7 wants to download is non-functional too.

I manually installed the previous Vista x64 driver ATI Catalyst 8.11 Display Driver and it's fine.

I have an Abit IP35-e and basically no drivers work for my 64-bit install.

Can't get my ethernet to work at all.

I'm running a IP35E as well.
W7 64 bit did not install drivers for:
Marvell Yukon ethernet controller
HP 7550, but Vista didn't either
SM bus controller

everthing else was installed and working

I went to device manager and updated the drivers for the 2 controller using the Abit CD

I have this same board, you need to obtain those drivers from the website and then run in vista compatability mode when you install them (if you are ONLY using win7 and have no other PCs, youre gonna have to get them from someone else or something)

I'm running W7 on an old Asus A8n-SLI Deluxe and everything works except the AC'97 drivers. Somehow it pulled ASUS brand of audio drivers, and anytime I try to change the audio settings (speaker config, etc.) I get a 'Format not supported by device' error.

I'm downloading the driver off Realtek's site (6285_Vista_APO_PG536), and I'll let you know if that works better.

That audio driver fixed my problem. Everything works fine for my rig (in sig) - even SLI!

I installed 7 on my Sager 5720 notebook. It missed the same drivers that Vista did, namely the webcam and the audio. Realtek's Vista drivers seem to work under 7 just fine. I haven't followed up on the webcam yet, its low priority hardware.

The Geforce 7800GTX Go drivers were installed via Windows Update.

Ironically, I was playing with the sound settings. I have a Gigabyte 790GX board with Realtek audio... the Win7 drivers have more features than the default Vista drivers did out of the box. The weird thing is that I have 5.1 speakers, and neither of the 5.1 settings hit the satellites, but the 7.1 does. Not only that, they have two 5.1 options - side or rear. Vista's drivers didn't!

I just installed it last night and the only 3rd party driver I've installed so for is the ATI CCC suite for my 4870. I was running XP Pro 32 bit.

I'm getting way better framerates in WoW, and before I was doing pretty well. I don't have concrete numbers yet but it's noticeably smoother. I wonder if that's something intrinsic to the OS or just the fact my machine can see more RAM now. I have 4gb.

Asus p5q deluxe
Intel E8400
4 GB RAM
ATI 4870

I have an SM Bus controller is showing up as "!" in device mangler, but I suspect that has something to do with the mobo chipset stuff I haven't installed yet.

My Acer 4530-5267 has the Nividia 9100M G. I was able to install the GeForce drivers into Win7 by pointing Device Manager at a folder containing the Vista x86 GeForce drivers I had extracted with Driver Max from my dual booted Vista x86 HP install. So both my Vista and Win7 installs are running GeForce v7.15.11.7748 (12/17/08), which I recently downloaded by running Windows Updates on my Vista install.

I was unable to download updated graphics nor chipset drivers form the Nvidia site. Nvidia is directing driver requests to Acer, who is just plain bad with driver updates... I did manage to find some Vista drivers on the Acer UK site. Most of these drivers are not current, but I did hit pay dirt with the chipset drivers I found there, NV v17.05... Installing these drivers into Win7 got a couple of system items running (coprocessor and one other), that were neither OOB nor Windows Update-able... Also, I had the same issue others did with Realtek audio drivers.. I grabbed Realtek v6.0.1.5624 from Acer UK to replace MS OOB drivers.

As far as Win7 x64 goes... Acer does not seem to think they have any reason to support anything but Vista x86 on the 4530. Perhaps I will make an image of my Win7 x86 install and try x64 again after a while, but on my first attempt I was unable to find x64 Geforce drivers and the OOB drivers did not run Aero smoothly at all. Not wanting to relive my experience trying to get graphics drivers for XP on this thing, I just gave up right away and went with Win7 x86.

I have had few problems with drivers, belkin wireless NIC and Netgear FA311 NIC had to fight to get them installed, they were not recognized during installation, onboard sound drivers were installed via Window Update once I was able to get onto the net.

I tried the ATi Win7 beta CCC control panel it installed but does not work(using an old 9700 card) so maybe its the card being too old, funny thing is Win7 found ATI 9700 driver before this but I still don't have native 1680x1050 res option in Win7(I did in XP)...I'll try ATI full package ( Vista 9.1s ) once they are released.

I keep saying this however I'll say it again I don't blame Win7 because its beta.
