Seeing as how the current government mindset is to rob companies of their tax breaks and profits....

Who the hell do you think is *really* going to pay for it when the companies get a tax hike? It aint gonna be the company that eats it I'll tell you that.

I remember bitchin when gas first went to $.60/gallon. Prior to that, it had been in the $.30-$.35 range...
THEN, the "great arab oil embargo" of 1973-74 hit...

They are shooting for $5

Doubt it but it will probably be corn (ethanol) that drives the price up and not the actual price of a barrel of oil.

Since the government has mandated that ethanol be mixed in with gas, that has caused an increase demand for corn which has raised the price of corn which raises the price for what we pay at the pump.

buaahahaa..

People will be throwing around "Peak Corn" conspiracies next

The government makes more off of every gallon of gas sold than the oil companies do. ~$0.40 vs ~0.09 for oil companies.

This is what happened

http://www.canada.com/topics/news/natio...c3-05da-4503-b9ac-14fe8d6e1a1c&k=17630

http://torontosun.com/News/TorontoAndGTA/2007/02/27/3672085-sun.html

Basically a fire at the Nanticoke refinery plant caused a massive gas shortage in the Toronto area. The gas shortage is so big that it's now even affecting areas as far away as Montreal. Of course since there was a refinery plant fire, this logically causes a jump all over the country and in the US, since that's what oil companies do at a time of crisis...

Everyone had to figure that $2.15/gal was not going to last long, the only solution is to
drive a vehicle that gets decent MPG so you won't get hosed as bad when it get to $3.00
again

Who said I was pissed off?

I love seeing those massive record profits from my pocket Exxon and the rest keep posting, dont you???

I think it has something to do with the fact that your every doomsaying prophesy never comes true. You've been saying "Drive for Five" for at least 2 years now. You said late last summer that oil prices would never fall below $70/barrel again, a week after that they fell below $70 and haven't gone back above since. Etc. Then there's the fact that you live in the part of the country where gas prices are cheapest.
In short, whiners who do nothing but whine become part of the problem, and we wish you'd stop whining.

Wen t up here 6 cents between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning...cheapest regular close to my house is now $3.35...

60 cent gasoline? heh-heh! I remember people almost rioting when it went to 50 cents during the oil embargo in 73! Gas rationing was common everywhere, and there would be HUGE lines at gas stations, and many stations "OUT OF GAS!" were pretty common as well.
During the days BEFORE the embargo, gas was normally in the 30-35 cent/gallon range, with "ethyl" being a couple cents higher, and premium MAYBE a nickle more than regular.
As a kid in the 60's, gas wars were hella common, and prices under 20 cents weren't uncommon, PLUS, they washed your windows, checked your oil, and often, gave away all kinds of stuff with an 8 gallon purchase.

It's almost $3/gal here in south Texas. We need more drilling in Alaska. The oil must flow!

A little education for you.

Oil is overflowing and has been for the last 5 years.

Inventories are highest in last 5 years.

In fact a couple of weeks ago the oil overflowed out of the storage tanks here in Oklahoma from being over full.
