i think it's worth pointing out that america's infrastructure is built with long single-occupant vehicle commutes in mind.
we are all spread out and have little or no public transportation.
you might pay $5.60 a gallon, but something tells me you don't drive 1000 miles a week, because your country is hardly that big. same goes for the UK. if they drove as far as we do, they'd be doing laps around the entire mainland all week. so if they pay 50% more for gas, it doesn't add up to much impact on their pocket book. you see that in their cars, which are generally much newer than america's, and they consider cars with 100,000 miles to be super old. here, that's hardly getting warmed up, because a car with 100K on the odometer is probably only 5 years old. every $0.10 change in gas prices means $150 a year for me.
gas going up by $1.00 means I have to increase my yearly spending by $1,500.
that's probably your gas bill for a decade. so yeah, i think it's worth complaining about.
