i think it's worth pointing out that america's infrastructure is built with long single-occupant vehicle commutes in mind. we are all spread out and have little or no public transportation. you might pay $5.60 a gallon, but something tells me you don't drive 1000 miles a week, because your country is hardly that big. same goes for the UK. if they drove as far as we do, they'd be doing laps around the entire mainland all week. so if they pay 50% more for gas, it doesn't add up to much impact on their pocket book. you see that in their cars, which are generally much newer than america's, and they consider cars with 100,000 miles to be super old. here, that's hardly getting warmed up, because a car with 100K on the odometer is probably only 5 years old. every $0.10 change in gas prices means $150 a year for me. gas going up by $1.00 means I have to increase my yearly spending by $1,500. that's probably your gas bill for a decade. so yeah, i think it's worth complaining about.

Many of us real Americans are getting tired people in these rinky dink Countries making that argument of how they've always paid high gas prices.

It's a lousy apples and oranges argument.

These foriegn wusses wouldn't survive a month here.

The cheapest station close to me has been hovering around $3.05 since Friday. Luckily I can cross the bridge in Washington Crossing into NJ and pay about $2.89.

Nah, you can screw yourself for allowing your country to levy such high taxes on your gasoline...MOST "furrin" countries have VERY HIGH gas taxes, which makes their pump price MUCH higher than ours...but if you take out the taxes, their pump prices are pretty much the same as our prices (without the taxes)...

I just paid $3.25 per gallon at the BP for 87. Over the past 3 or 4 months it went up from about $2.39 to $3.25.

I remember filling up my 72 Nova for $.95c back in 92-it's steadily increased since then. Why would that be? Some of it is due to taxes, but the majority of it is the huge increase in demand (globaly)-with depletion modeling of the available oilfields it becomes evident that this smaller spikes/drops are irrelevant to the eventual climb to $5.00+pg here in the U.S. as a standard.

I remembe when I was a kid, riding my little motorcycle up to the nearest gas station and gassing up for less than .50 per gallon. It didn't even hold a gallon, so I could fill it up, buy a Pepsi and something to eat, and still get change out of a dollar.

A VW Polo - I take my bike to work, but I have to drive around 700miles every weekend to see my wife...

Interestingly the gas is going up up up here too, even though the dollar went down down down
