Getting kind of boring to hear about 1.6A overclocks, but I wanted to share with AT members my exp with a mobo I don't hear too much about here.
I did my research and decided in the EPOX 4BDA2+ Intel i845 based board. The guys over @ [ H ] forums really have had fantastic luck with the Epox.
There are a few key features that I like:
PCI/AGP Lock. This locks the PCI/AGP @ 33/66 at any FSB 117 and up.
3:4 mem ratio available @ ANY FSB speed. This is the big one. Most i845 boards do not allow the 3:4 mem ratio @ 133 and above.
Vcore up to 1.8 V
Some other cool stuff like boot from USB drive. I can boot from my compact flash card on my Sandisk.
I'm not really a hard core overclocker. I dont go for big Vcore increases. I'll give it a little extra, but thats it. Here is how I run it for now:
2.3 GHz
144 MHz (576 QP) FSB
1.55 Vcore
Stock HS/Fan with ASIII
512 Meg Samsung PC2700 @ 384 MHz DDR speed. This is ~ PC3100. Without the 3:4 mem ratio, I'd only be @ 288 MHz DDR.
I get ~ a 2950 Sandra mem score. I could up the Vcore and overclock it higher, but I'm happy with it @ 2.3 G. The system is really fast, and so far, perfectly stable. I'll keep fine tuning it as I get more time with it. Full system specs are in my rig below.
If anyone is building a P4/i845 setup, give the Epox 4BDA2+ (RAID) or 4BDA (non RAID) a serious look.
