RossMan,
Bought the same notebook you ordered except for the cpu...got the P3 800mhz.Hehehe.
Ordered mine last Friday and expect it to be shipped this Friday.
This time, I did not order the deluxe bag cuz my wife said it's too big and heavy for her.
The bag is really good with a Dell logo in the front...it has two pockets for the power supply and dvd drive or floppy drive whichever is not installed in the notebook.

Anyone know their return policy?!? Their website is fairly useless, and I have, oh, say, 15 mins to decide.

Pete,

by the time you read this the deal on the dvd upgrade/free shipping/100 off might be over (deal still seems to be alive on Dell's site)....

From 30 days of invoice, you can return your machine. Although Dell will do quite a bit to have you try to keep you're machine. By you returning it, they have to resell it as a "refurbed" unit although it's still somewhat new since you laid your hands on it. For them this means a loss in profit.

Both the I4K and I5Ke use about the same tech. The only lappy that uses newer tech is the I8K which uses the i815E chipset. The rest use the mobile i440BX chipset.

Pete - I hope you don't think you still have 15 mins left for the Inspiron offer because the Free DVD expires 11/28/00 at 11 PM CT which it's now 11:48 PM CT.

Although the ad still appears here

So which one are you getting? Remember only 64MB RAM, 10GB HD is your best bet.

FYI,

Dell also has a 30 day price protection policy if the price of your notebook drops in price. However to take advantage of the credit return, the new price of the drop must be at least $50. Since most of us got the free DVD (~$100 value) and 100 off, I don't think it'll drop over $250 within 30 days.

Well seeing as I orginated this thread ("that's my special boy!!&quot I should post my newest acquisition.

Dell Inspiron 8000 Notebook
Intel Pentium III Processor 700MHz
14.1" SXGA+ TFT Display (couldn't justify $200 for .9"!!!)
64MB SDRAM, 1 DIMM
16MB ATI Mobility M4 3D Video, 4X AGP
10 GB UltraATA Hard Drive
MS Windows ME (what a pisser... I wish I could have "opted out" of an OS cause as soon as I get it I'm formatting and installing win2k... WinMe blows)
Internal 56K v.90 + 10/100 Mini-PCI Combo (very cool!!!)
8x Max Variable DVD Drive
3 Yr Next Business Day International On-Site Parts & Labor

$1978.00 ($1582.40 after MSN 20%)

Yeah!!! What an awesome deal!! If you can handle the weight and mediocre battery life of this beast, the 8000 is perfect!!

I notice that most of us proud new fathers of Inspiron notebooks opted for the 3 years next business day on site warranty for $149.

How many of you Inspiron buyers did NOT buy the 3 year warranty and stuck with the standard 1 year? If so, why?

heh heh... my friend a 1.5 years back opted for a 1 year warranty. His LCD screen for some reason died one day and needed a replacement. Since his warranty died out he had to shell out 400 for a new screen direct from Dell since he couldn't just go to the local B&M store and get one. Not a happy day in his life for sure. Learned from seeing him... Gonna play it safe with a 3 year! Funny thing too... my 1st laptop (an ancient Pentium 120) had died out in 20 days. Good thing it was within the exchange/refund period! I'll be damned, if not jinxed or something, if something goes wrong on my I8K!

Iilac - Yep I got that one also. Whichever costs $149 which I think is that one.

The other one with CompleteCare is what I like to call ii Idiot Insurance for if you spill your coffee on your laptop, drop it or run it over with your car. Plus it costs a lot, I think $318.

I'm glad I got the 3 year warranty for $149 though because it gives me peace of mind esp since notebook components are NOT cheap to fix or replace.

Hey Guys,

This might not be relevant to most but for anyone whom ordered the I-3800, say last weekend, you might wanna go and check to see if you can get the same system for less. I submitted my order last Friday but when I checked the price of the same system just a minute ago, it was down $100. I dunno about you but $100 is $100. I re-submitted the order and gonna call them up first thing in the morning to cancel the original order (or they might just cancel the new order and reduce the difference.). Anyhow, just a note for anyone that might be in the similar situation. Oh, I did it with the MSN deal in case if you wonder...but hell, that's $80, still...

Lucks,
Mark.

Log onto Dell Talk Forums (support.dell.com) and post a message about the price reduction in their credit back/returns forum. a Dell CSR will confirm the price change (if $50 or greater in difference) and put credit back on your order.

You might be able to o/c it to the 103/105/110/112 fsb depending on the clock generator on the notebook. I wouldn't recommend doing a bus overclock as you'll be overclocking EVERYTHING instead of the CPU. That usually generates more heat than just overclocking the CPU alone.

In the case of the I8K, it uses a official 133MHz chipset so you'll only be o/cing the CPU and not the rest of your lappy.

Since the User upgrade modules are easily user accessable, upgrading the memory won't void your warranty.

I just ordered an Inspiron 8000 using Passport. At the final screen where it asked to choose a payment option, monthly payments was an option and I chose it. I have no idea how Dell is going to process both the MSN and the financing, but I hope it works. I also ordered about 4 hours after the Free DVD, Free Shipping and $100 off was supposed to close. So I don't know if the order will go thru.

I decided to pass--for now. It was...very hard. I'm a compulsive hardware junkie, and while a laptop would have been sweet, I just didn't have the $ for it. And I figured by the time I do, the prices will have gone down.

BTW, isn't CST 2 hrs behind EST? I posted at 12:45 EST, which I though would be 10:45 CST, thus giving me 15 mins till the deal expired at 11 CST. Or was it MST?

I'm dizzy. Must go collect myself somewhere away from the Hot Deals forum.
