Well, looks like they updated their website. No more Free 8X DVD and Free Shipping. The DVD is an extra $100 and god knows how much s/h is, probably like $50 atleast. So those who ordered saved atleast $150. The $100 off Inspiron notebooks deal is still on.

How to verify that my order is in the MSN promo? Do they have a record? I called Dell but the CSR told me they had no records whether orders were from MSN promo and suggested me contact MSN. But the MSN Live Chat CSR pushed up a Dell webpage and said it was the right place to confirm. Anyone successfully confirmed your order went thru via MSN promo? What is the right phone # to call? Thanks.

okok

If you placed your order through the page supplied by the MSN link (i.e. if you clicked the "Express Pasport Purchase" button) it DID go through MSN, seeing as the rest of Dell's order pages don't have that button.

l2c

P.S. We're dealing with Dell and MS here--we will get our rebates.

Just got a e-mail back from Coast to Coast Memory (The guys that sell SODIMMs for $79.49 - 128MB). Looks like you MIGHT be able to specify what kind of memory brand you might want on your SODIMM. However, you will have to call them to place your order and not by online. Below is the e-mail on my inquiry. Their shipping is 6.50 I believe so it should be $85.99 shipped. Considering most states might have to shell out around tax for the crucial memory, this might be a better deal for those that don't really care about name brand (Crucial uses Micron chips). However, it's only about a few bucks cheaper... that is if you don't have to pay tax to crucial.

If anyone does order from them by phone, please let us know if you were able to specify the memory type you desired!

Below is the e-mail

---------------

We carry several brands. If you want a specific one, then you have to call
the order in to our sales department.

While there is a $500 limit per order, there doesn't seem to be a written limit on the number of rebates one could receive. If I buy two laptops in two separate transactions, will I get two rebates? Has anyone looked into this?

Curious about that too.

P.S. I will try contacting an MSN rep about that now and report back what I find out

LOL... didn't get much helpful information, but I think the chat transcript is amusing:

Panza: Hello Dan, how may I help you today?

Dan: Hi.. I was curious about your Dell promotion. Is it possible to do it more than once? (i.e. place more than one order to get more than one rebate)

Panza: We are a Gift Concierge Service.

Dan: What? What does that mean?

Panza: You will have to contact that individual Merchant to get details on their promotion.

Panza: You tell us what type of gift you are looking for and we find it for you, or a gift like what you are looking for.

Dan: Do you have a method of contacting someone who is aware of this promotion? I have spoken with a representative at Dell who had no idea that this promtion was even going on.

Panza: I believe that Dell4me.com discontinued their promotion on 24 Nov 2000. You can email them back and ask to speak to someone there who will explain this to you. (NOTE FROM DAN: Don't worry... that is not true)

Dan: Your page says "Click the link below to contact a real human being now who can help you with questions about the Holiday Bonus."

Panza: We have no control over each Merchant. They can begin or end any promotion at any time.

Panza: O.K. I will be more than happy to explain the Holiday Bonus to you. One moment please.

Panza: The MSN Holiday Bonus is an exclusive offer from MSN to help you find a good deal this holiday season. The bonus is available at a broad range of merchants and will provide you with 20% of the value of your purchase as a bonus in the form of a merchant gift certificate or instant discount
Panza: All you need to do is use your Passport wallet at checkout and follow the instructions for redeeming the promotion found at the promo web site.

Panza: The promotion is scheduled to run through the holiday season. However, MSN and each Merchant reserves the right to end the promotion at any time.
Dan: So you don't have any information on whether the discount can be used more than once, is that correct?

Panza: Do you have Passport?

Dan: yes, and I have already done the promotion with Dell once, last night. My question is, can I do it again to order another computer?

Panza: One moment please while I send you the page on Passport.

Panza: There is no limit on the number of purchases any one person can participate in.

Panza: MSN will reward 20% on the first $2500 of a transaction.

Panza: Each merchant sets how it regulates the MSN 20% bonus.

Dan: OK... so I can order another computer from Dell and will receive another 20% rebate. Correct?

Panza: The limit is $2,500.00 for each transaction.

Panza: Please check with that Merchant on those details.

Panza: It is up to each Merchant to set their policy.

Dan: Do you have a phone number I can call to check with Dell?

Panza: Their email address is Dell4me.com.

Dan: that is not an e-mail address.

Panza: They do not provide us with a phone number. We are a Gift Concierge Service and can only tell you to contact the Merchant.

Dan: Thank you

Well I just spoke with a CSR from DELL Home named Greg, who went through all the literature they had on the promotion, and said that there was nothing stating that the rebate could not be received multiple times per customer, just that there was a limit on each rebate of $500 per order (as we already knew).

His advice was just to make certain that the orders were completely separate.

Hope that helps!

Yes, you can only apply (double) cashback during your anniversary period. Mine was redeemable from now through March.

I got the Inspiron 8000 with P3 700. Can this be overclocked? How? Just up the FSB in the BIOS to 133?.....

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know of any deals on carrying ases and network cards for these puppies? Ordered mine but didn't want to shell out for the expensive accessories they carry there. I am sure that many anandtecher's are interested in them as well.

Thanks alot!

I did a search in buy.com and seems like you can get 10Mbps ones for like 34 - 10(new customer) = 24 + shipping. Cheapest 10/100 is like: (Linksys) 41 - 10 = 31 + shipping, (Dlink) for about 30 + shipping, (Hawking) 30 + shipping, etc. Does anyone have experience with Hawking or SMC?

Carrying cases seem to vary. Prices go from 20's to over 100. Anyone will suggestions for decent ones?

Thanks,
Mark.

here is the latest....

DELL said there was a misunderstanding. MS never gave them the orders from passport info. DELL will recieve the order info from MS this week and DELL will pay out the Cash refunds. that is what i heard from a MSN live CSR and a a DELL CSR.

so much for organized big business.

So if msn will be getting the info this week. Is there any chance of us getting confirmations of some sort or do we just sit and squeeze hoping we did things right?

Luzer - Thanks for the update, I can't wait to get my $399.20 cash rebate. That'll make this deal super hot esp with the $100 off, free DVD and free shipping.

So I guess it's still going to take 8-10 weeks until we receive our cash rebate checks?

i placed my order on 11/24.... 2 5000e's (2 separate orders)... anyways, got an e-mail that night, and the orders were shipped 11/27. Scheduled delivery is 11/30. Not a bad turn around, if you ask me.

weasel - I'd say that's an awesome turn around time. Can you tell us which LCD display and CPU your two 5000e's had?

My 4000 (P3 700/14.1) was ordered 11/28 and is expected to ship 12/5. Not bad. This was a SMOKIN' HOT DEAL!

actually, most of the people in this thread ordered laptops, which aren't using RIMMS, they use SDRAM SODIMMS, but that is an interesting article, and certainly useful for those who ordered a Dimension PC with RDRAM...
