I saw a post last week about NewEgg shipping increases and I was going to place an order for $200 of items 3 keyboards and 4 floppy drives was the weight items rest cables and stuff that weigh practically nothing and my shipping was $32 and change for fedex saver shipping. On top of that the prices on some of the items went up costing me another $20. Strange I would think they could ship for much less than $32+ I guess they are getting to almighty and time to shop someplace else... $20 is what I would expect.

Yes, I too have noticed the shipping increase on certain items, and the shipping discount for multiple items is slim. However their prices are still excellent and their RMA policy is outstanding.

I don't think they like selling cables and such...major shipping on them!
Cases haven't gone up in months, and most everything that isn't cheap and small has been relatively stable.
Build a whole system and you get away pretty well. Get some keybaords, mice and fans you get it stuck to you

You said it John the shipping discount on multiple items is very slim. Seems like they are adding up the shipping charge on idividual items to come up with a total then discounting 15% or something which sucks. Yeah, I agree when building an entire system or three worth of items the shipping wouldnt matter unless crazy that is why I have decided to just buy the few items I need now and dropping the keyboards and floppy's till I am ready for a much larger order in a month or two. I can afford it at this time but hate wasting my money like that.

Depends what you get I guess, I just ordered a bunch of stuff, just so happened it all had free shipping. To compensate for the shipping charges they've lowered most prices by a few bucks, and it's generally coming out to about the same, ie. an item that used to be $50 w/ free shipping might be $45 + $5 s&h now.

Fuel prices will play a part in this too. I would imagine aviation fuel is more costly now just as gas is.

Plus, I would guess their pricing system is somewhat automated, by having the prices from fedex automatically calculated in, there probably isn't much they can do.

But it's still crappy if stuff ends up costing more.

Nope, fuel surcharge is hardly an issue, something like 4% more overall than last year. That's less than a dollar of actual shipping increase on a 20 dollar freight, I don't think anyone here has registered a complaint about such a measly amount. It's clear there is excess shipping cost padding going on especially if shipping on multiple items does not go down considerably from piecemeal ship prices.

Monitors are outrageous now at newegg. No shipping breaks at all and base prices have increased too on the monitors.

In the past few months both FedEx and UPS have increased their rates. Therefore, you'll find that alot of ecommerce sites are either no longer offering FREE SHIPPING; or they are padding the prices of their items in order to offer FREE SHIPPING. All in all, prices are still cheap compared to walking in2 a retail store (i.e. COMPUSA, PC CLUB, etc...) This is a cutthroat biz and most of these companies are barely making anything on each item. I used to work for a wholesaler in Santa Fe, CA ...and i recalled them making like $1.60 on CPUs!!!! Which is unthinkable...but these guys based everything on volume, so in the end they still do make a profit but not that much.

I only do my shopping only at 3 places...and they have all been good. They each have their pros/cons, but overall it's been a relatively smooth transactions. I work with a consulting company in OC and any given month we placed an order between 6-10K in computer components with these companies... IMHO, these are the best companies to deal w/online for computer components:

MWAVE.COM - these guys are out in Walnut, CA, good prices, good selection, return is sometimes a B*ATCH...but overall 9/10 (WILLCALL AVAIL)

NEWEGG.COM - they're somewhere in City of Industry, good prices, good selection, good return policy on most items 8.5/10 (NO WILLCALL)

CELLEXPRESSION.COM - new kid on the block (i think), they're somewhere in North OC (that's socal for u non-natives), good selections, good prices, flat rate shipping on cell fone accessories, good return policy ...sent us all free tees way back in 2003 thanking us for our business. 9/10 (NO WILLCALL)

You have to learn the "game". Buy your keyboards and cases and monitors and mice at Fry's or your local PC shop. (the shipping kills you) Buy the motherboards/memory/CPU/Hard drives/video cards from newegg for free shipping and lower prices !!

Depends on what you buy. There are still items that offer free FedEx 2nd day. I just shopped and bought from ZipZoomFly (formerly Googlegear) and got a better price and free shipping. BTW - what has this to do with hardware?

Yeah, I use to go to Newegg for all my memory. But now it's like $20+ shipping just for a stick of RAM to Hawaii. It didn't cost that much before. The added $20+ for shipping brings the cost to right around what I can get it here locally.

Though it works out if I buy RAM, motherboard, hard drives, CPU, video card all one time from newegg. It's still cheaper that way, then if I bought it here.

"For HI and AK customers, FedEx can only ship via 2nd day or overnight, and shipping time will not be guaranteed. Therefore, Newegg.com will default to and charge for 2nd Day Air."

$21.56 shipping for a single stick of RAM to Hawaii.

As MDE pointed out, all RAM prices have gone up, not just Newegg's. And it really does depend what you get; I just got a Canon a75 and a few accessories for it (batteries, charger, mem card), and a 100pack of cd-r's - all had free shipping. Of course shipping to Hawaii costs more, this shouldn't come as a surprise. Most online companies want $10-$15 to ship stuff to me in NY, regardless if it's just a ram stick. Newegg has always had competitive prices and never raped people on shipping, and they're continuing. Can't blame them for seperating the shipping from merchandise prices, too many people simply don't look when buying and their prices, higher due to included shipping, didn't look as good.

I'm just not too wild about their shipping costs for small items, like fans, heatsinks, ramsinks, lights, you know But I can understand their case shipping costs, because that stuff is heavy.

Yeah, I definitely know what you mean. Sure, it costs them a certain amount to send the first fan, but a second 80mm/92mm fan doesn't cost any more to ship, yet they charge the same amount for it also. And you want to talk about ram prices going up? I ordered two sticks of ram and a motherboard Friday night, and the same two sticks of ram had gone up $10 EACH overnight! How's that for paying for not being the early bird?

Gawd! Ouch ouch ouch. I sure hope that the ram prices dont go any higher. I will be needing 4 sticks of 512 DDR 3200 or better in two months. I got nailed with high priced ram once before paying 3 times as much as it would have been had I waited 3 or 4 months. Paid $180 per stick of Cas 2 Micron 128 MB years ago. LOL Baahahahahahah boy did I feel ripped off. I bought three sticks at that price. I think I am going to cry. A stick of 512 DDR Ram is going to costs more than a freaking Athlon 64 2800 cpu soon.
