Working on Vista X64 for 2 weeks now on a new Quad Core machine w/ 4GB ram...and i HATE, HATE every single bit of Vista.

I really dont want to go into detail now WHAT and WHY...its just too much too list.

I tweaked vista as good as i could, i found some good tweaks, but it is still CRAP, CRAP, CRAP.

Problem is...for a certain game i am eager for (Alan Wake) i need DX10, as well as i want to use all my 4GB memory. So...i am bound to use Vista X64.

Crappiest OS EVER....and every day i want to jump out of the window because i cant stand this OS. How this '%"$$"§1/%&! made it ever to release is a mystery to me.

Also..kudos to MS to make ANY machine look like a C64 because its slow like molasses... <--- coming from someone running this &%!'*"& on 4x3600mhz

PLEASE give me DX10 for XP??!?!?!?!?!?!

G.

Flexy, if you have an issue there are people who would be happy to help (or at least try) but simply ranting and then saying "I really dont want to go into detail now WHAT and WHY" isn't acceptable in the OS forum.

And as for your Mr. Spyordie007, what PMs are broken buddy?

Well, there's a convincing argument if ever there was one. I guess I'd better uninstall Vista now...

Seriously if you're going to post this here, why waste our time with a post that tells us nothing.

Vista x64 is the most stable OS I have ever run.

believe me..i really only have it since "alan wake" and probably other games will require DX10. It has NO SINGLE aspect which makes me like it, in terms of performance or whatever...and even the "nice" Aero p***d me off since i was unable to change the taskbar from the ugly black. SLOW peformance, buggy and slow apps.

Also....seeing you're ironic...if i have time...i might write something longer

To the OP:

Anandtech is normally a place where you see more reasonable, rational debate between people who try to use facts. People who post mindless trollbait rants usually get schooled by people who know what they're talking about. One of the reasons this board is heavily visited and lurked is because of the technical expertise of many individuals who frequent here.

You're entitled to post your opinions but I suggest you do so when you're not so pressed for time and can actually present some thoughts intelligently. Otherwise you will continue to come across as noob, troll, nitwit, dumbass, among other terms. The last thing these forums need is yet more immature stream of consciousness barfing style posts.

Vista x64 runs perfect for me, by far the best version of Windows I have used in my 15 years of computers.

Vista64 is the best OS to date for personal computing system, period.
I've built or helped build at least 5 rigs with this OS and not one single crash or BSOD of any kind.
If you do run into issue it's simply because of either you or the hardware you're dealing with.

The AT Lock-O-Meter? needle is definitely in the yellow zone. The OP's second post names one actual issue he had, so maybe there'll be some use to the thread in the end. C'mon flexy, put yer cards on the table, maybe there are solutions (although DirectX10 for WinXP is probably Not Going To Happen).

lmao the tweaks you did were probably from some random site and you messed it up. I honestly don't see how you don't like vista compared to xp. vista takes a little ore understanding of the OS to navigate efficiently and it takes some getting used to. You have only had it for 2 weeks and you are complaining? Just give me your computer and you wont have any more problems :frown:

Give it more time Vista hasn't even 'learned' to anticipate you yet ... and Vista affects your brain after awhile .. soon you will be posting how stable it is and how much you like it and how Primitive XP is in comparison

Of course, his "tweeks" might have been to disable things like superfetch.

Me personally, I've been running Vista 64 for a long while now and it's been very speedy.

After figuring out the Adobe bundles a stupid Photo Downloader with Lightroom, the last of my quirks are now gone after a few days with Vista. It wouldn't be bad if the dumb utility wasn't bundled with a 16bit app and a 32 bit twain driver. Why does the installer throw both 16 and 32 on there. Can they leave 16 bit out? Who in the hell is going to run lightroom without a 32 bit OS?

You have quad core etc and find it slow?.......my humble 3800+ x2 cpu with 7800gt card ,4GB of ram is nippy in Vista x64.
My games list is quite big now with no gaming problems,I even threw in Starforce drivers,TAGES drivers etc and still solid.
As for tweaking you should not have to do that, all I did was disable Defender real time scan(set mine to scan once a week).

My conclusion is you have a problem which is not caused by Vista,2nd probem is these stupid Vista threads where people have not taken the time to troubleshoot or get help rather then take a blind shot at Vista .

I also do beta game testing and find Vista x64 solid,IMHO Vista is the best OS Microsoft have made so far,and this is from a XP user with 7 years of XP usage.

Wow, I'm surprised at all the M$ cheerleading in this thread. I'm running Vista (business) on a 4600+ Dual Core with 4GB and am damn glad I'm dual booting with XP. I'm an Action Pack subscriber and I'm all for learning the new operating systems when they come out, but this one appears to me to be bloatware without any real benefit coming from all the additional overhead. I'm part of a team that manages 240 servers and we will be very reluctant to be early adopters of Server 2008 based on what we see with Vista - hoping the gold version will remove more Vista-isms that are still in RC2 (like Server 2003 had less XP-isms by the time it went gold).

I sensed the same thing when I started reading this thread. My friend is a .net developer so I guess I can see where it's all coming from since I can't convince him Java is a good platform.

My view on OS's is they should be a this as possible. OS's should be the primer to every other application out there and nothing should be included with it except the interface. But it's in Microsoft's best interest to include everything they can with their monopolistic operating system so users will be forever tied to windows. But unfortunately the vast majority of people want what's easy and convenient and because of Windows prominence in the world today, it doesn't look like things are going to change soon.

I was going to stay out of Yet Another Vista Troll and Run Thread, but Chosonman's post was just too ridiculous to pass up (I stopped reading dave's as soon as the old dollar sign made an appearance).

"Monopolistic OS," that's a new one. Is OS X monopolistic for including applications with its install? What about Ubuntu? Any other modern OS for that matter?
