Here's an update:

The Planar is out due to price vs performance. The other monitors are in the same tier and cost $100+ less.
The Eizo is out because the SX2461W model recommended by nitromullet is not currently available refurb, only the SX2431W.
The Doublesight is out because it seems like a bit too much of a gamble.

That leaves:
LG L246WP-Bn
HP LP2475W
Dell 2408-WFP

Questions:
LG - I still don't know much about this panel. Does anyone have an opinion one way or the other? The price is right...
Dell - Everyone has a strong opinion of this monitor - they either love it or hate it. Unfortunately, the monitor has changed quite a bit from revision A00->01->02, and most opinions don't mention the revision of their monitor. Could anyone comment on how good the currently available A02 models are?
HP - There seem to be two different versions of this monitor available, with a price difference of $100+. I can't figure out what that difference is. Does anyone have a link to a comparison chart?

"The Planar is out due to price vs performance."

Have you seen reviews of the Planar PX2611W vs the others, and can you give me the link... thx...

Think my final list is the HP-LP2475w, the Dell 2408, and possibly the Planar.

I was considering the BenQ G2400WD, but after using the Dell 20" 2001FP for several years now, I'm afraid I won't be happy w/ the picture quality of the BenQ.

Again, this computer in the house is used 80% for gaming.

HP LP2475W for $510 plus free shipping
http://www.costcentral.com/rev...75w/KD911A8ABA/U09559/
(Costcentral is an authorized HP sales and service center too)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Provantage sells it for $510 but without free shipping.

(BTW, Provantage seems to sell 2 versions of this monitor, but I don't know and don't think there is any difference in quality. Probably the same panel,.. and I can only imagine the difference would in bundled accessories if any). HP website doesn't show "2 versions" of the LP2475W)

==============================================

Sidenote:
I'm using a Dell 24" 2408WFP revision A02 right now, which has an S-PVA panel. So far I like it, but I must say that it's view angle and color is not quite as good as my 20" 2007 Dell with S-IPS panel. The S-IPS panel has a more natural color, and better view angle.

I don't know how the HP's H-IPS panel would compare to my 20" Dell S-IPS. But if H-IPS is the same as S-IPS, then I would 100% recomment the HP LP2475W.

I also use my 24" dell for gaming... and my eyes are not noticing any of the lags that many hardcore gaming sites are seeing. I just don't notice the lags, or perhaps I'm not or don't care enough to be bothered by any lags. Anyway, I'm happy with it.

You said no one says anything about the A02 rev. Well, as I said before, unless you're highly sensitive to the lag you're not gonna have any issues.

I primarily purchased it because at the time it was on sale and much cheaper than the HP. The viewing angle is great and I haven't noticed a difference between IPS I've used.

Otherwise the HP is a fine choice.

The reason to pick the Planar is if you want the lowest input lag IPS monitor available. If input lag isn't important, get one of the cheaper models listed above, as they will probably have equivalent image quality.

I absolutely hated the two 2408FPW A02's I had. Which really surprised me because I still have my Dell 2005WFP, which is still a nice 20". I also previously owned a 2407FPW, which was a decent LCD also. I've been a Dell monitor proponent for a while now, and I still think they make good LCDs for the money.

IMO, the problem with the 2408FPW is the fact that it is wide gamut, and doesn't have adequate controls to tame the colors. The EIZO I ended up with is also wide gamut (less than the Dell though), but it has way more options to adjust the colors. In theory, wide gamut is a good thing, but if you can't adjust the hardware adequately and you don't use color managed applications wide gamut just means all your colors will be over saturated.

...btw, if you haven't done so already, you really should read up a little bit on wide gamut to see if it's for you.
