Went to local Sears to purchase and got there 10 mins before the doors opened. I was absolutely the first person they waited on in electronics. After I told the clerk what I was there for, they fumbled around a while and told me that they sold the one (one!) tv they had in stock. WTF?!! Before they opened?

Got the clerk to call the other Sears in the area (4 stores) no one had any in stock. Asked for a rain check and was told by the 'manager' that they weren't issueing RCs for this item. I went home and ordered the tv off the website. Got the confirmation and everything looked good.

Tuesday:
Got an email from Sears stating that the tv was 'unavailable due to demand.' Again: WTF? But here is another tv you will like. Item number they sent me (05771256000) is not on the website and they don't even show that they sell that brand (Proton).

It seems like they knew that they didn't have enough of these in stock (no RC). Thanks Sears. Way to embrace that Kmart attitude...

After running myself crazy due to all the bad info on the set I was finally told to be sure to order online as early as possible Sunday Morning, like 12:01 a.m. to be sure of getting one because they were in short supply for the entire Sears system. I wanted to see it in person firsr so drove about 30 miles to nearest corporate owned store and saw it there. Was very nice and surprised me greatly. Talked to a rep and he said that the entire store had 4 in stock and that there were only 120 or 140 in entire Sears system from which stores could order more, so to be safe by ordering online for store pickip as soon as possible after midnight and that would esnure that I got 1 of the 4 because it would be taken out of sys in my name b4 the store actually opened. I then waited and ordered that way, but had to wait until 2:00 a.m. to do so since they did not change the online price till then. Luckily it worked like a charm and I picked it up the next day.

That may be what happened to the one they said they had in stock when you checked. The sales person also said that if I did not get one that way it would ensure I would when it restocked because they contact people who ordered that way when an item out of stock became available again. If you have not tried ordering online u might try if they are still taking orders, and if so, you might try for home delivery instead of store so it will be from core stock instead of the store. Finally, try BestBuy because they did tell us they would pricematch if it was in stock in the store and even offered to do it Saturday evening early b4 the Sears sale actually started, but they did not have any instock.

Good luck because it is a very nice set.

Scored 1 for $770.00 out the door at BB.

I took the sears ad into BB. (although sears was out of stock, they did give me a rain check). BB was OOS also, but they said they could have it here in 3 days. They pricematched, plus gave me %10 difference. total was $770.

Sears.com orders for In-Store pick-up are removed from the computer's stock count as soon as the order is placed, and are physically removed from stock as soon as the order is placed or (in the case where the order was placed when the store was closed) at 10:00 in the morning.

Seems like you had an unknowledgable manager if he would not issue a RC. The Lawn & Garden and Hardware Departments are much more knowledgable about issueing RC's, so just have a cashier issue you a RC.

That's great. U will love it. Unfortunately I am not going to be so fortunate. I go0t one and absolutely loved it once I got it set right, but for some reason all local channels carried over cable sucked. I finally called cable and founb out thqt no local channels feed them HD. All tehy will feed is analog or digital, but no HD. I crapped and then called DishNetwork and got the same answer and they said that it was the same with Dish. The ONLY way to get hd HERE is with an outdoor antenna, so I am up the proverbial creek. I have to get a set with a bulit in tuner want to or not. Guess I will have to return mine.

I was dumbfounded to learn this. Wonder how many others are facing the same problem?

Just get a Directv HD receiver from eBay for like $50. They have ATSC tuners, and you dont need Directv service to use it. I got one last year for $75.

Maybe you just don't have any HD channels in your area?

Cheap, we have at least 6 including all the major networks, within 40 miles, so that's not the problem. The local Dish provider says they won't upload HD due to cost being so much higher, and cable company asked me to call and ask them and to also tell them that Cable said they would help them in any way possible (short of $ I imagine). I suspect this is a much more widely spread problem than one might realize.
