I saw this fantastic device at Goodwill today for $20.00
No idea what I'm going to do with it, but it looks awesome and I know at least the optical sensor (Navi FX-300 series, if you can't see it in the pictures) is worth a little more than that $20
So it appears that it can move up and down the column, can rotate around its base, and the metal rod goes in and out. But beyond that, I have no idea what it is for.
I wish I were more handy with these sorts of things, it could make for a very fun project. If I can't part it out, I'll probably bring it to my college's physics lab and let some poor college student fiddle with it.
