In yet another case of Eric Holder-esque anti-gun brainwashing that ranks right up there with getting suspended for eating a pop tart in the shape of a gun, an Albany school has banned national guard t-shirts because they have the image of a gun on them.

Sounds like the right call from the superintendent. Dress code exists, adhere to the dress code. The ban on gun imagery on clothing isn't there for things like National Guard shirts, but schools generally find it easier to be simplistic in rules than to make dozens of exceptions. Just like I bet some of the shirts I own would be banned even though they don't explicitly violate dress codes.

I get that conservatives are to the point where they think every 10 year old should be bringing their personal uzi to school, but that insane fuckery aside this isn't a big deal. Or even a small deal. It's something only fuckwits make a shit about.

If this were a simple mindess flaw in the dress code I would agree. Unfortunately they stated a specific rational for forbidding imagery of guns in any context.

Sounds like they're afraid of inspiring another Sandy Hook, because clearly such situations are caused by guns on t-shirts. I'd also argue that imagery of guns, particularly in the context of the national guard, brings the military to mind and studying the military is perfectly pertinent to education. Do they also rush to shut off the TV when a military recruitment commercial comes on? Do they forbid pictures of military logos and recruitment ads in history presentations? Do they forbid students from talking about shooting during lunch?

This whole deal is yet another example of clueless school administrators taking a mindless stance against guns that they feel is fully justified. Sometimes I feel like if I were applying for a school administration job I could get ahead by putting "helicopter parent" on my resume.

To be fair, his shit is like 50 years out of date. The only time a national guardsmen would be holding a gun is if they were participating as an active shooter. Real national guard members just fill sandbags when it rains too much.


And, not to forget the "back in my day" nonsense: back in my day, I wore a Stone Cold Steve Austin t-shirt to school once that had him giving the bird and drinking a Stevewieser. One of my teachers actually liked it.
