Opteron 144 on the ASRock 939Dual SATA2. Only issue I have is lack of Linux drivers for the ULi chips. An annoyance that can be worked around by compiling in the appropriate modules available from the ULi website. The Opteron is stable and speedy at 2.6 GHz though!! Linux throttles it down to about 1.5 GHz when idle to save power, and then when something requiring CPU horsepower starts, it cranks up to the full 2.6 GHz to meet the demand. Keeps things nice and cool with two 120mm case fans and the stock HSF.

CPU: Opteron 170
Stepping: CCBWE don't remember the week
Overclocked speed: 2550 mhz (10 X 255)
CPU voltage: 1.45 V
Idle temp: 33C
Load temp: 39C
Cooling: ThermalRight SI-120
Motherboard: DFI SLI-DR
Ram: OCZ Platinum Rev 2
Ram size: 4 x 512 meg
Ram timings: 2.5-3-3-7

Idle is a little lower now. That was before the AS5 set.

that?s a very good load temp as well, what heatsink are you running on that?

Deary dear i need to get some better cooling me thinks. I am thinking about dropping a water setup into my rig soon as this will also help me achieve my 2.8Ghz stable goal. I have been contemplating whether to do this for a little while now and pay day is tomorrow

I think as long as toledo or San Deigo works so will an opteron... I mean same chips really. Soon as epox 9nda made a bios for my X2 it worked with 165. I've tried 4 boards all work with 165 just fine. I never jumped on single core opterons...

XP90. Your volts are a little high, it goes crazy over 1.45 vcore. Thats why I am at 2600, not 2650.

It's the 1.c.rar mod bios at the top of the middle column.

I have a question. I dont want to start another opteron thread. How are these different than the 940 opterons other than the pin number. If I remember correctly, the opterons(at least the 940s) are suppose to have more hypertransport lanes than the regular X2s. Is it the same for the 939s? If so would we see a performance difference with are 939 motherboards if we had opterons?

Not related to this thread at all. I'd suggest starting a new thread or finding an old one that's related.

Kris, when do you need the info by? My 148 is coming today but I won't have a chance to install it until Sunday.

My backplate finally came in yesterday...got the 170 running great at stock right now, haven't tried much overclocking yet but it didn't boot at 2.3GHz at 1.4V

I haven't done the voltmod on my board yet and probably need to use one of the beta overclocking BIOS releases though...

I was kinda surprised at how cool it runs though (at stock anyway)...idling at 33°C or so. I was used to 55°C idle temps on my old overclocked Athlon XP.

Edit: Scratch that first comment...I'm obviously a n00b and don't know how to overclock A64's yet (and my board's BIOS options are kinda hard to understand). In any case, it's running at 2.4GHz at 1.4V at the moment, once I (sorta) figured out what I was doing

Dual Core Opteron 170 (3.0ghz @ 1.54v / 2.0ghz @ 1.01v)

The only problem is my whole system would shutdown if vcore is over 1.595v. I may need a more heavy duty psu.

Don't mean to hijack here, but what settings are you using? If you could shoot me a PM or post in this thread:

I'd appreciate it!

You're using at least 450W on 12 when everything is loaded..not counting case fans or CD roms you may have... = 38 Amps...

Yeah sounds like it.. Need a Zippy 700..but it's $300 Fat 45A 12 volts rail.. all rails are phat. That's a crazy setup needs a real commercial PSU.

Hi Kris,

See if you can determine if the rumor (Tank Guy mentions in another post) about AMD discontinuing the skt 939 Optys is true.

Thanks,

Fern

Opteron 170@ 2700mhz
Asrock dual 939

Overclocks great with the little voltage the motherboard will allow. The only issue i've had is I have to run at 2T. No big deal though.

Edit. Forgot to mention. For some reason when I first got my asrock and set it up. It Defaulted to using 64 meg agp in the bios. It caused quite a bit of problems with games skipping, freezing etc. I put it to 128 like it should be for my agp card and no more problems.
