The problem I see is that the struggle for life has built into us a survival drive that when activated by external factors that cause it to kick in produces a motivation to do everything one can to live. Thus arises the great theory that to maximize progress of the species, the most efficient way to do so is to harness self interest and thereby create a system in which the competitive drive will lead to greater innovations and efficiencies. Thereby also we hear the statement that greed is good. But of course all this stupidity for all it's effectiveness leads inevitably to self interest above all else and the rape of the Earth. And the greater the need, the greater the fear of being left behind, the greater the rage against the machine, the greater the damage done. Only a society that reduces fear rather than maximizing it for profit will in the long run help us survive.
We are all the same and if all of us can calm our fears each of us will feel safe. You save yourself if you care for the well being of others. Our society feeds on and promotes sickness and will finally collapse if not changed, I think.
