I have the original Pro2 and I used to get those green vertical lines that ran across the top of the screen.. When I first got them, the whole computer would lock up.. Then after I started getting them now and then, nothing froze and I was able to continue whatever I was doing (i.e. dragging a window over the green lines would make them disappear). Now that I've reformatted and stuck in another HD, I haven't had the green line problem once. I also don't get any blue screens, either.

Well, I guess I'll pull it from the for/sale forum. I got the impression that my problems were compatibility problems that someone else would not have with different hardware.

This sucks. I can't send it back without taking a hit and if the board is bad I don't want to sell it to anyone.

I encouraged everyone on the forsale forum to read my post from the last few weeks before they agreed to purchase the board.

whoah...hang on...

Does Napster pretty much run all the time on your system? What version?

All my BSODs that caused weird video problems, including a lockup with color bars at the top, etc, only happened in a windows session in which I ran Napster(even if I ran it only once, and even if I close it afterwards). Then the problems would appear right away if I used my hauppauge WinTV card.

Once I stopped using Napster, no unexplained BSODs so far.

Just for an experiment, try running the system using older ata33 ide cables. There's something fishy about ata100 on some via motherboards.

BTW,

Red has a microATX based computer .

Taken from apushardware KT7 FAQ.. this worked for me...

I get a blue screen with a green line at the top after restarting.
Tape detection seems to cause this problem. Removing MSBackup will not solve this problem in itself, and so it is necessary to remove, or preferably rename, the following files.

[C:\windows\inf ]
pnpwfdc.inf
pnpwide.inf
pnpwtape.inf
pnpwppt.inf

[C:\windows\system\iosubsys ]
drvwq117.vxd
drvwppqt.vxd
drvwcdb.vxd

You can rename these files to anything you like (I recommend appending .old to the filename) - you're just stopping Windows from find them. See also "Windows 98 hangs or reboots during startup or at desktop!" below.

This is also in the Microsoft KB

I forgot to mention that killing those files doesn't screw anything else up so you should be cool..

I didn't realize that I could rma the board back to msi directly. I'll be faxing the rma in the morning and when I receive the new one it will go on the forsale forum pronto. New unopened box.

My next motherboard will have the 815 chipset on it. It will also be from a local dealer which will limit me to Asus or Abit.

You may want to reconsider selling that new board you get. I got a fresh one last week and it is the most stable board I have ever used, period. Use the new drivers from the Via site, and don't put a thing on your system from the CD that comes with it. If it is/was a bad southbridge the new ones seem to be OK. Mine sure is, and Like I said, absolutely rock solid.

Well this was the second msi I've tried and the other one had different problems besides some of the same one's I had with the 2nd board. I may try msi/duron setup at a later date in my kids computer, but right now I think Intel will be the best for me. I've been using my kids celery 366 for the last few weeks and it's tough, 64mb, tnt card, old lx motherboard, cheap ensoniq sound card. EH!! At least I can hook the dsl up to it.

Sad part is I did everything exactly like everyone told me to do, as far as installing windows, via driver's, cmos flash, etc.... I hate admitting defeat but............

Has anybody seen the multiplier problem suddenly appear. When I first set mine up with an unlocked Duron it worked like a champ. I was running my Duron 800 at 950 with no problems. I noticed today it booted at 550. I tried to go back in the bios and change it around a few times with no luck. Now I can only run default at 800. If I change it to 9.5 it boots at 550.

tjdavis1138,

Wow man sorry to hear that. I would like to know what is the real cause to so many people?s problems with the Pro2A? Is it MSI or VIA? That would still make to sense, some people are having great success with this board; I know I am.

Could MSI have released that many buggy boards? We?re seeing why to many people having problems with this board. Today I received my ATA100 rounded cables, installed both of them, booted up and ran without any problems. So I really can?t see how it could be the ATA100, unless I got lucky? I?m also running latest bios 2.2 with VIA 4in1 4.26.

I don?t know what else to say but way to many people are having problems with this board. Wonder if MSI has released any type of statement, or what is their response to people?s questions? Anyone got any email from them they are willing to post?
