Yet another Republican government shutdown looming

Republican infighting threatening to shutdown government, again. Yep, the Republicans didn't do the work they were sent to Congress to do, failing to pass a single budget bill for FY 2024. As we knew they would, they lied when they made a budget deal as part of debt ceiling negotiations. Can't blame this on the Dems as the Dem controlled Senate passed a CR. The House hasn't even brought a spending bill or CR up for a vote, a total disgrace of leadership on the part of Kevin McCarthy. Conservative ideology fails whenever it is put into practice.

The House is going to have to swallow the Senate CR via discharge petition. McCarthy needs to avoid putting it on the floor where it will pass himself. The question is just how long this is going to take.

The great irony is that the Rs continually complained the Ds would not put legislation that would pass on the floor.

I think any passage of the Senate CR in the house (via any mechanism) will get McCarthy removed though, right?

Discharge petition automatically comes to the floor so he can plausibly say there's nothing he can do about it.

But that would require forethought to have a Trojan horse bill for that purpose, plus the collection of signatures to force the issue.

The Dems put a legislative vehicle in motion some time ago for this purpose IIRC. It needs to be amended and get the extra GOP signatures in order to ripen and start the clock.

Anyone still think we should vote anything but blue?
We have some strong disagreements.
But they are nothing compared to what Republicans plan to do with any vote they receive, where any power they wield is to favor Russia, favor dismantling our government, and favor screwing over our people through a myriad of bad economic and social policies.

No sane person should vote Republican. Unfortunately for us humans are tribal, not sane.

There's a silver lining that's glinting in the sunlight on the backside of a government shutdown.

Market crash.

McCarthy wants to meet with Biden lol. He can’t help you with your own caucus man. After he went back on the budget deal Biden has no reasons to help him out of his self made jam.

Well, 40% of Americans believe god did it a couple days ago, 20% not sure and 40% believe in evolution.
Compare yourself to Iceland and that has a 5-5-90 split.

You cant seriously be surprised you’re getting a certain percentage of morons in politics.

Last 4 Republican Speakers of the House:

Newt Gingrich: reprimanded by House, Resigned while in office

Dennis Hastert: felony-convicted sexual predator

John Boehner: Resigned while in office

Paul Ryan: did not seek re-election to House

It takes a real political masochist to want to be a Republican Speaker of the House. After watching McCarthy go through multiple votes to get the Speakership, and his agreeing to the one-vote-removal with overt US fascists proves he is following in his predecessor's footsteps.

Watching this shitbag get raked through the coals is going to delight a lot of Republicans and Democrats. Couldn't be happening to a more deserving fascist enabler.

I was always impressed by how well Boehner and Obama got along. I didn't like the guy at first, but his washing his hands of the Freedom caucus idiocy spoke well of him.

So ridiculous, this constant game of 'how can the GQP fuck Americans today?"

How much of this could we have avoided if something heavy had just fallen on Gingrich back in the 90s? I ask myself that a lot

He’s an old school guy. While I didn’t like his priorities upon reflection I like how he was willing to get stuff done by allowing his opponents to get stuff done.
Far superior to what we have now.

This has nothing to do with any one man and has everything to do with our people.
It is how the media they consume speaks to them, with propaganda, and radicalizes them. Humans are extremely prone to radicalization because we have no tether to reality. A group may believe in and desire the truth, but nothing is going to keep people in said group. Especially with Rush Limbaugh and Fox News picking away at them. Then social media just poured fuel onto the fire they had already started.

No one person disappearing will stop this process, or alter it in any meaningful way.
So long as free speech is abused as a rallying cry for madness, then there will eventually be madness, and blood.

There is only one way to deal with these threats of "Government shutdown".
The executive must have the balls to force a continuing resolution as the status quo, until Congress provides a new budget. Until a new directive is provided, the old one must be used.
This is the only way forward.

USAA and our local credit unions are sending out offers of 0% interest 3 month payday loans for affected civil servants. So the banks all think the shutdown is a done deal.

This is the message the Dems need to put out there, and keep doing so until maybe it starts sinking in for the general populace. GOP wasting time on an impeachment where they have nothing to back it up while being hours from a gov't shutdown is beyond ludicrous to me, and should be to anyone that takes a second or two to think about it.
