You have some reading to do.
You would claim avoiding one bad person is important, amidst a society that generates them.
Do you also imagine an election can change the outcome?
Such hope would explain where the fixation on individuals comes from. And maybe 30 years ago that could have made some difference for today. But where we currently stand on this journey, with where human nature takes and divides us, there is no answer found in civil discourse. Even if we choose that path, our opponents will not. Not so long as they proclaim elections fake. No so long as they storm the capitol. To me, the outcome of 2020 is the realization of where MAGA has taken us as a nation. To the precipice, to the very edge of madness and blood.
As we all like to pretend that we are good people, no one has yet taken the next step. But the pressure is building. They still think elections are not real, and so long as that is their core belief, the use of force will become inevitable. Whether they end up as some splintered sectarian violence, an organized terror group, or a fascist military dictatorship, that merely depends on how far their preparations and their violence takes them.
To imagine one Republican House Speaker from the 90s did all this. No, we the American people did it. Born of our hubris and our very nature. We did not guard ourselves from corruption from within. We allowed free speech to be used in a way that harms us, and drives our people towards alt-realities and divisive delusions. Left without guard rails, this is what becomes of humanity. The Libertarian utopia, as it were.
Gingrich did not build this, he was merely its steward for his time, as was Trump, as will be someone far worse. Viva La Revolution!
