Groove actually. Used to be Burt I guess? My sales guy there said it sold though =\

Q5 would be nice, never thought of that. Assuming I can find a decent CPO one. How are those VW Tiguans?

Only thing tiguans have going for them are that they are due to be replaced immenenintly and sell poorly, meaning a really good deal is all you should settle for. It's been on the market roughly a decade with minimal updates, and even when it was new it wasn't terribly competitive.

Not sure what the upper range of your budget is, but have you considered Volvo? V60 cross country is basically a lifted v60 wagon with AWD. The current 60 series is kinda small inside, but overall seems fine. I liked how the v60 drove, but that particular ones seats didn't work for me.

Volvo cpo warranties are some of the best out there, and Volvo used cars come down significantly from their new price. Could also consider the xc60( gets confusing there because they changed engines a few years ago), which is aboutto be replaced as well (as in the new model just started rolling off the production line).

Edit: in the VW theme I just remembered that they just started selling the golf alltrack. It's a lifted golf wagon with AWD (decent AWD to), and should be in your price range. I've a 2015 gti which has a very similar interior, which is a pretty nice place to spend time for the money.

Pass on Tiguan unless you find a ridiculous deal. Not in the same league as a Q5. CPO Q5 with the 2.0L engine and 8spd auto would be a very solid vehicle. I had a few as dealer loaners over the years and they drove like an A4 (which is a good thing in my book) with more useable space. Note, Audi service/parts will cost you more.

So I finally got a car. 3 months later, was playing the patience game and trying to stretch the old forester as much as I could with stop leak and constant oil/coolant fillups. We got a sweet deal on 2010 Forester XT Limited with only 65k on it. Spent $11.3K on it and it's a sweet ass ride. Potato pictures.

Nice,
I love the XTs, though not sold on the 3rd gen.
Im still attached to my boring underpowered Normally Aspirated 2nd gen.

Some day, I will find my dream car!

Honestly it's my least favorite generation but it's growing on me. I'm going to swap the front grill for a mesh "sport" grill instead. Will look much better than the Chrome. I wanted a new one just couldn't afford it but the CVT on the new one is cancer

RAV has the better engine, is much more comfortable inside and is pretty bulletproof in reliability and resale. I think they still have a real 6spd and not CVT like the CRV which is a solid second choice.

I have nothing good to say about the Forester and wouldn't touch it. Not worth it over the other options on the market at the moment. Even a Ford Escape is probably a better option than the Subbie.

I know somebody looking for an engine for a late model 335, apparently they can self destruct I am told.

I know this thread is kind of old but I totally agree with you. I had a Forester for a week as a rental and absolutely hated it. If you like cars with a bouncy ride, rock hard seats, rattles galore and lots of wind noise on the freeway then this is the car for you. This thing rivals the Jeep Wrangler for most miserable car I've ever driven... and I owned an Isuzu Rodeo once.

I wouldn't touch a used 335i either. Did BMW ever sort out that problem with the high pressure fuel pump?

Pretty much every car with a high pressure fuel pump has issues. Forester isn't perfect but it works better than the competitors in the winter here. And it's got way more power

If you live at the end of a 2 mile long unmaintained dirt road in the mountains the Forester is the perfect car. If you live in the city and occasionally go to the country it is literally the worst car on the planet.

I put probably 400 miles on a 2015 Forester (might have been a 2016). I literally hated that car and couldn't wait to get rid of it.

Nice STi by the way. I dig it.

agree with Jules. i put a few hundred on an outback and hated every min. no power, esp. at 12000 feet. and drives more like a truck than my sierra, which is our main snow machine.

I'm with you guys as well. Recently test drive a late model outback and just doesn't get me excited...even in 3.6R form. Hyped way more than what they deliver. I do like the form factor though.

Most the issues were isolated to the N54's. The N55's are mostly problem free. Don't know that there was ever a GOOD fix for the N54 owners though, beyond a 3rd party fuel pump.

We do have a cabin up in the mountains that's on a dirt road that we stay at during ski season

STi is nice, have had it for 6 years now and thinking of a change of pace.
