I only bought the RAM for the moment, and considering how good it is (2000mhz 8-8-8-24-2t), I think I made a pretty good deal for 105€ (120€ with the shipment). Next in the list are: GPU, Cooler and SSD; all components that can be ported to a newer system (hopefully the cooler will). I'll wait a little for the CPU, but I don't think it will go down much on price, really (In Aliexpress, the most popular x5675 vendor, now sells the cpu 4€ more expensive than 1 week ago. Maybe the x58 mobos are going down in price because ryzen, and that makes the CPUs go up. Just throwing random theorys out that noone cares about... nvm me).

So, about the GPU: 1060 6gb or 970 4gb?

I saw some benchmarks and the 1060 shows better results, but I see a lot more people using 970's than 1060's, even tho they are about the same price. What do you think? I'm now leaning a little bit more towards the 1060, but opinions are welcome.

The 1060 should be the better of the two cards.

Why don't you even consider the RX 480?

970 owner here. I would go the 1060 if I had a choice between the two or the 480 if I had a choice of any card. Surely more people use the 970 because it has been out longer?

Ye I guessed that, but I saw some 970 owners say that it was better than the 1060, so I wanted to make sure.

The 480 I'm not considering because the 1060 show better benchmarks, or at least that's what I saw.

The 480 and 1060 are pretty close, both better than the 970. I would not consider the 970 at this point if other cards are options such as the 470, 480, or 1060, or similar.

I retired my i7 920 a couple of years ago when I built the rig in my sig. If I were to choose which direction to go today I'd wait for Ryzen. Initial reports have the R5 1600X looks to be an Intel killer chip. Priced at $259, it best Intel's i7-6850K (priced at $610) in both single-threaded and multi-threaded tests in the CPU-Z benchmark tool. I'm happy with my i7 4790K, but I haven't felt this much excitement in years. Competition will do that to my beloved hobby. I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon, but when I do I'll be glad to have more than one CPU to choose from.

Nobody has mentioned it yet, but the cooler you selected (NZXT X41) is a terrible choice (in my opinion). $150+ for a single fan water cooler?!
You could get a much better AIO for that price (example: twice the size/fans https://pcpartpicker.com/product/RH2rxr/corsair-cpu-cooler-cw9060027ww )...but you don't really need it. You could also get a cheap AIO water around $60-75, but I wouldn't spend more than $30-40 on a CPU cooler for that thing, even if you do plan to use it in the future (problem is you don't know what you'll have, or if it'll be compatible in the future).

Interestingly the cheap 212 Evo cooler ($30) still lists 1366 compatible. Dunno if it'll handle 4+GHz on one these big old mad CPUs though.
I think another choice is to find a cheap (less than $40) used air cooler from those days like the megahalems (if it hasn't been abused/lapped)
Actually I found some older coolers still selling new like the Scythe Ashura for $35 (better than the 212 Evo), dunno if it's available where you are.

I'm going to take a nap, if I don't come back to this hopefully I at least pointed you in a better direction.

The nzxt x41 was 98€ new, but it is not longer available. Now I'm going for a x42 at 118€. The thing about the cooler is that I cannot fit a double fan in the front of my case, and the NZXT is the best single fan water cooler hands down (acording to benchmarks). I know it is not the best value for what I will get, but I'm more or less restricted here.

About air coolers: I don't want one that is too heavy because I've read that the mobo is pretty sensible to pressure, and I'll be running 6 sticks of ram probably. I also had one air cooler and it didn't fit, because the RAM it's pretty high profile and also comes with a fan, so even taller. And as I said earlier, I'm aiming to 4.4ghz if possible.

I'll look to more options and see whats available here.

X5670 is your best bet. I had both and the X5675 runs hotter. 4.2Ghz isn't hard to achieve with an Asus board & X5670.

If you want to go ridiculous single fan slot water cooling, then stack a couple 120/140mm radiators with 3 fans (front/middle/back).

Kinda like this (but with single fan radiators):

Edit: If there's room, you could also hang a 240mm rad off a 120mm slot. One fan would act as a spacer against the case, the other fan would be be placed on the opposite side away from the case...kind of like a Z shape.

Hello guys, I just received the processor I bought from China. Finally it was the x5675 (I got it for 65€, so 20€ less than expected). The thing is that it came with a sticker or something in the back:

I don't know if it will work like that. I've tried to remove the sticker, but It seems to be quite glued and I don't want to damage anything, so I figured out it's better to ask (as embarrasing as It might be); Will it work like that or do I need to remove it?

Thank you.

Yeah, the sticker is just an ID tag they added. No worries tho, it'll work fine.
