This is crazy... I don't recall ever hearing about this story. Extremely disturbing but fascinating read - can't even imagine the hell this guy went through. Hopefully he at least sues the shit out of the school and gets a settlement to live comfortably the rest of his life (and afford the therapy he will likely need). It's really sickening to think that people like this are out there.

I just happened to read this on my phone's news feed. Incredibly sickening and scary that there are people out there with the kind of mindset that lets them do these kinds of things to another human being.

Jesus fuck, that is messed up.

People like that have not earned to right to be called human. They should be treated like the rabid dogs they are and get put down by a vet.

It's definitely fucked up.

All that over 4 lbs of weed. Idiots. War on drugs strikes again.

Damn. The physical injuries those two have now pales in comparison to the psychological damage. I hope they get some decent counselling.

would the reaction be any different if he had gotten the 'right' guy?

Not from me. Even though the "right" guy sounds like an asshole, I place root cause on a social and legal perspective on drugs.

This is one of the most fucked up stories I have ever read. The two poor bastards didn't even have anything to do with ripping them off and got put through a hell not deserved by even the asshole that did rip them off. Truly insane just how sick some people can be and all of the people that came and went that did nothing to help the poor bastards.

Federal "Pound Me In The A$$ Prison" for life, I hope.

Only one got "life", I think it was 135 years and pretty sure it's state so I'd wager that he has a chance to get out at some point but will still be there for a very long time. The rest got 33 years and less. In my state I know a guy that got 5 years and was out in 18 months. Smith, the guy who set everything into motion got 13.5 years and I bet he is out in 5, maybe a bit less, but no longer than 7 as long as he doesn't get into too much trouble in jail.

No. No one deserves that kind of brutal torture. Well, I guess I wouldn't complain too loudly if someone had did that to say Hitler or something but the sadistic torture of a human because they ripped you off is plain sick. I could understand roughing the right guy up in order to scare him into paying you but that wasn't what this was.

I do wonder, how the fuck did they not know that they had the wrong guys?

While this particular situation would probably not have happened had drugs been legal, the ringleader Stickland or whatever his name would still have been a sadistic scumbag and would probably eventually found a reason to do something else horrendous to someone.

I don't doubt that. It's tough to see avoidable situations like this happen over something like money and marijuana.

Even a middling D-III program wannabe like a powerhouse FBS program.

Joking aside, I read the whole piece and it was unclear to me why these 2 guys were targeted. Obviously the D lineman/musician was not involved, and the perps knew that (later?). But was his buddy even involved with the original assault/theft? When I read it, it didn't make any sense that these psychos didn't even go after the guy who ripped them off. The only link was the building where the victim lived.

Oops, this question was already asked in this thread, but not really answered.

The theft happened in the victims apartment. The people came back and exacted revenge on the actual occupants of the apartment, mistakenly.

That's my understanding at least? It was kinda tough to follow through all the cringeworthy stuff.

Got it, not to say I'd expect clear logic from violent criminals. They didn't really go back to the apartment to exact revenge though. They found out the guy who lived there, and used their girlfriends to lure the victims to a meeting.

I guess the assailants just assumed that the apartment dweller lent out his room to Isaiah Smith, and was in on the theft.
