I guess Best Buy not linky friendly.

Edit: Looks like the deal is dead. The website now shows $90.00 after rebate. I still haven't picked mine up. I ordered in store pickup and my email confirmation shows $100.00 before the rebate. Someone said the price is $100.00 before rebate in the store also? Please post what price you see in the store. Thanks.

Edit: I picked up my online order in the store and got the deal. The shelf tag still said $100.00 minus $100.00 rebate = $0 The tag was printed 8-29. The kid did get confused when he saw $190.00 in the computer. I asked for the rebate info to be printed out and he got confused again because he said "Ya it's an instant rebate". I said ya it's an instant $100.00 AND $100.00 mail in. He printed out all the rebate info, but I guess I could have gotten all that online anyway. He did check out the shelf tag and didn't seem concerned about changing it. I guess this is a YMMV now. I think you can still get the deal if the shelf tag is at $100. I bought mine in Torrance, CA.

For me it was hot at $50, this is just outstanding! Anyone know if the rebate is good if I am adding a second TiVo to my service?

Yes. I have mine set up this way. I got the wireless card off fleabay for $35 shipped. The first call does need to be made by a phone line however after that the DVR updates itself via the network. This also enables the home media option which plays music and shows pictures off of your "server". Works well here.

EDIT: Service is $12.95 per month automatically withdrawn from bank acct or credit card.

Wow! Thanks! Already told son (who has series 1) and daughter (who hasn't TiVo'ed at all yet) about this. Hope this isn't an error that gets squelched (at least until everybody gets theirs.)

Sometime later this year they're supposed to allow users to transfer recorded shows to their pcs and allow you to transfer them to DVD or to other TiVo users.

What time does Best Buy open? I just went there to see the store closed! At 10:20 in the morning???

Edit: NM, they open at 11. I'm gonna see if deal is in store, as I have my rewards zone card.

If I get it I'll need a deal on a wireless networking card.

Am I missing a rebate or something. For me it says 199.00 plus ytou save 100.00 for a total cost of 99.00, where is the rebate?

EDit: nevermind, i see that you instantly save 100.00 dollars and then there is a 100.00 reabte. Thanks.

I got a question, can you use the damn thing without subscribing to a service? I'd like to replace my VCR with it that I use to record shows that I know I'll miss but this is better. The only question is - can you use it without $12.95 service.

Thanks...

The rebate requires service activation.

"TiVo service or TiVo Plus service must be active at the time of rebate processing to be eligible for rebate."

Can you use a TiVo without the service? Basically use it like a VCR where I can program when to start and stop recording and what channel?

What about if I pay for service until I get my rebate and then cancel. Is the TiVo worth anything to me without service?

Only Series 1 TiVo's may be used as digital VCRs without a subscription. It can be done, but the value added by the service is well worth it, IMO.

These are Series 2 TiVo's.

Yeah, but it still doesn't explain anything, all it says subscription is required for it to get rebate.

allisolm
So it will work even without subscription but only in some "basic" mode. If I wasnt to unlock extra features I have to subscribe, is that correct? And if it is, is there any link where I can read what features are availabe without and with the subscription?

Steve0
So you're saying this one won't even record shows without subscription? If so than this is IMO stone cold...

A standard phone line is required once during setup. You can then continue to use your phone or connect your box to an existing wired or wireless home network and broadband. Your TiVo® box will never interfere with your phone service or Internet connection.

Any idea how long it takes to download the listing svia phone line? I plan to go back to broadband when I move in a few months, but right now I only have dial up. Also that says it won't interfere with your phone line or internet. I understand why it won't interfere with your internet, but in respect to the phone line, it still ties up the line while its downloading right? I assume they just mean it is smart enough not to try and dial out while your actually using the phone?

The two times I did the actual phone call it only took about 10 minutes for the call itself. And yeh, it's smart in the sense that it won't call out while the line is in use.
