I didn't find any myself. I just went to staples and picked up a netgear one for 30 bucks. Works great, no rebates or anything. Still seemed expensive, but amazon and other sites sell these things for like 25 bucks or so, So I just bought it so I could use it right away (no land line in apartment, had to take it elsewhere for guided setup)

Edit: Why these things don't COME with a NIC integrated is beyond me. Integrated NIC cards barely cost anything.

Tivo is losing money on the hardware as it is, they're trying to cut costs anyway they can.

Well I got mine from UPS today. Quick question on the setup. I want to be able to use the tivo to watch one show while recording another, but I also need to have a VCR connected at the same time. I found this setup article at tivo.com. This shows the setup for the Tivo and VCR without a cable box, my preferred way of setup. Will this setup allow for the watching a show while recording another?

After looking at the Tivo manual, I assumed I would need a splitter for this. Which I have one, but I just want to make sure it gets setup correctly. So basically my question is, will the setup shows work or should I do it this way:

Cable out fromt he wall into a splitter, one cable from out of splitter to in of Tivo, one cable out from splitter, to to in of VCR, one cable out of VCR into TV. Then also connect the composite cables fromt he Tivo to the TV.

Sounds right.

Wall > Splitter > Tivo > TV (coax, AV, or S-video)
Wall > Splitter > VCR > TV (AV or coax)

FYI:

Circuitycity.com has a 40 hour TIVO listed for $50 after rebates. You have to pickup at a local store, though.

Dang it, whats with all these Tivo deals. I was on my way to making a home built PC PVR system, now using sageTV, eventually switching to mythTV when I learn linux(note to self read anands article on mythTV). I got the one from bestbuy, basically completely free for me. My mom had just gotten a bestbuy credit card and she said it she spent 100.00 bucks, they gave her a free 20.00 gift card. So I told her about this deal, she said she didn't want one, but if I did, she would buy it and deal with the rebate herself. So now I have one free Tivo, aside from the monthly fee(which was why I was going the PC PVR route, to avoid the monthly fee)and the thought of being able to get another Tivo for 50.00 bucks, doesn't sound too bad, but then I would have an extra(how much is it exactly) 6.95 a month or whatever to pay, hmmmm, is it worth it over the PC PVR?

I originally decided to get the one from best buy, since I figured it would be less intimidating for my girlfriend to use a Tivo then to use SageTV or Myth when I switch. I am just wondering if there is any way to stream episodes recorded by sage or even myth to the Tivo. I know you can stream a show from another tivo on your network, and know they use MPEG2, same as sage, but I doubt it is that easy, if it can be done at all.

coolred,

I'm in the EXACT same boat as you.

I bought this on 8/29 for $99 out the door - $100 rebate = FREE. I plan on signing up for the service for 2 months, get my $100 rebate then cancel and use the "free tivo basic".

In addition I'm building a ghetto (cheap) HTPC with my new Dell 4600 using Hauppauge WinTV 250 card and Beyond TV (or SageTV).

There is no Basic service for TiVo's without DVD drives.

Ah crap, looks like my reception isn't gonna be to great. Right now I am currently living in my Mother in Laws basement, since we were broke when we moved back here. I do plan to move hopefully by the end of the year at the latest. But back to the problem, There are only cable hookups upstairs, actually thats not even right. Time Warner has one cable coming into the house, from there it gets split one goes to the den, the other to the living room, we then split it again, to send it down to the basement. I then had it split again, so I could have my VCR/TV hooked up along with my tuner in my computer. That worked fine, looked good if not great. So I went along with my wishful thinking and got another splitter hoping to use my computer, VCR/TV and tivo at the same time, if need be. Well after that it made the picture fuzzy on pretty much all of them, oddly enough the computer looked best, which has the longest cable run.

So I unhooked the computer and just split it out to the VCR/TV and to the tivo, this looks a lot better on all of the lower channels. But as you start getting higher like in the mid 50's and up, it starts to get fuzzy on both machines. Not horrible, but noticable. I'm not exactly sure why this is, since this would effectivly be the same as when I had the computer and VCR/TV hooked up together, which looked fine.

Coax cable is shielded right, so it shouldn't be getting interferance should it? I do have a lot of wires running behind my entertainment center, but no more then most people. I have the TV, VCR, Tivo, DVD player(which I could get rid of), PS2, and my receiver. Not sure what the deal is, probablly just to my degradation due to the number of splits and cable lengths. Kinda a bummer, but I guess I could live with it, till we move.

Well, you can only split it so many times. If you split a split, it just compounds it.

There are signal amplifiers you can pick up (get a good 2-way one). It should be connected where the cable enters the house, not near a device that is already receiving a split signal (the signal is already killed at that point.) Should help the matter.

I don't think upgrading these things is that hard if you take the time to read tivocommunity.com and use the recommended tools.

I know it's long dead, but if anyone got in on this and doesn't really want it I'd be willing to buy it off of you...
