I plan on using RivaTuner to auto hack the card. You should be able to go from 128bit --> 256bit memory bandwidth easily if you have the L shaped ram. (thus 9500 pro) The 4 extra pipelines is all based on luck! Good luck all.

Good News Folks! Got mine today and it took the hack! No visual problems after applying the hack. Below are my benchmarks. Mind you I am using a junky SIS 651 PCchips board with a 2.4 P4 running stock so there not as high as they will be when my 655 board gets here. (I hate it when parts don't arrive at the same time)

With Catalyst 3.1 drivers. (all settings at defaults)

3DMark 2001 10,486
Fillrate Single 922.9
Fillrate Multi 1104.5

After hack(all settings at defaults)

3DMark 2001 12.486
Fillrate Single 1559.7
Fillrate Multi 2176.1

Still haven't flashed to overclock but might wait until new board gets here. Also, this 650 board only supports 4X AGP

I'm finding all kinds of links for flash utilities and such, but I need a tutorial on how to flash the bios and unlock the overclocking. I don't really want to flash to preset overclocks and that seems to be all I'm finding! I'm likin this card alot after the software hack, and don't wanna screw it up doing it wrong! Any help out there?

Noticed you are still running DX8.1. If you have a 9000 series card, you might want to consider upgrading to DX9 . . . especially since the last time I checked they are officially (but apparently not unofficially) a requirement for the Catalyst 3.x drivers.

Noticed you are still running DX8.1. If you have a 9000 series card, you might want to consider upgrading to DX9 . . . especially since the last time I checked they are officially (but apparently not unofficially) a requirement for the Catalyst 3.x drivers.

Yah, i realized that. I'm upgrading my pc a little with a MB too so i'm reformating and will put dx9 on here. Do you think I will see anymore of an improvment?

Nope . . . just a good thing in general to use the correct DX version for your card. For example, on my radeon 64MB DDR VIVO (top of the line at the time . . . still my current card, but not for long) after upgrading to Cat 3.x and DX9, I would get HORRIBLE artifacts in any D3D game, and plus some of my 2D text was getting warped!. Downgrading back to Cat 2.5 fixed the warping problem, but considering how incredibly messy an uninstall of DX is, even with system restore, I'll just have to live with the 3d artifacts untill, well, later today when my 9500 arrives

For someone that wanted a step-by-step guide, there is one at designtechnica...they also have a faq here. They also have a poll of people's results so far.
There is probably also howto/faq and such at www.guru3d.com, where you can get the RivaTuner that does the software mod.

I have my card, and have had it for a few days, but have been unable to get it to run 3dMark2001 WITHOUT the mod in Win98. I figure it won't help much to do the mod if the original card isn't working!
I'll fiddle some more then hopefully apply the mod tonight, provided I can get any driver/setting combination to love me.

If you guys are interested in a Radeon 9500 Pro with red PCB guaranteed, you could buy it from AllStarShop for $169 with free ground shipping. As mentioned on AllStarShop's page, it's still not a guarantee that the card you receive can be modded without problems but at least you have a better chance with a red PCB than you do with a black PCB.
