I have bad eyesight, and am rough on glasses, so I always go with the Marchon Flexon frames, that are titanium (I think) and you can bend and twist them and they come right back. I went to a mall store to get my eye exam and to get the frames, I wanted another pair, just like the ones I have, with new frames, as I planned on getting polarized lenses in the spring. The mall store would not order the frames, stated to me that they are no longer made.. and to check at their other location..
So being the tightwad I am, I went home to call some places for prices and decided to look online for the pair.
Local place RXOptical - Marchon Flexon autoflex 40 Gold, $408, plus $109 for polycarbinate lenses.. No coatings, no guarantees against scratching.
Checked with Frames Direct. $138 for the frames $110 for oversize poly plus edge polishing (the other place didnt include that). I was a more than a bit skeptical, so I double checked with the place, and he emailed me a jpg photo of the frames in question, and they were the correct ones.
I got them today via FedEx, and out the door price, I saved about $250 from going to the local glasses hut. As a bonus they threw in the Marchon hard box type glasses case and a polishing cost.
Edit: http://www.framesdirect.com/
read the fine print on framesdirect on how to order, I forgot to get the pupilary distance measurement from optometrist, so dont forget that..
Very happy with the service, they even dealt with VSP my vision service plan. I realize that most people might want to change glasses style, and looking at them online may not be the way to go for them, but if you just need to replace a pair, or already know what you want, you can save a ton of money going this way..
