We could do that, there's a 20 off 85 deal coupon around......that would really make this a hot deal.

The picture itself in CompUSA's ad in the newspaper does clearly say "PLATINUM eX" on it underneath "Blaster Audigy 2".

If you need or want this thing, seems easy to PM it somewhere else like CC or BB. Just make sure to get someone at the customer service counter to do it, or anyone else that doesn't have a good idea of what the prices should really be at.

No go at CompUSA for me. I almost got it though because the clerk called the manager and he was taking too long so he just did a price override but just as he did it the manager showed up and matched up the SKU's and came back with a non EX so I just said thanks but no thanks. Went to CC and BB to do a pricematch but neither one of them carried the the EX and I'm guessing the same thing goes for Staples.

Same here. The manager was thinking of doing it until he pulled up his cost for the EX ($211). Would have sold it for $199 but considering the soundstorm in my NF2 isn't to bad I passed. BB/CC do not stock,or saw the AD and pulled the ones they had.

I just picked one up at Burbank store without any problem. I didn't have to say anything. The cashier already knew that it was supposed to be $129.00. She just call someone and he override the $249.00 price and I was out the door. They still had 3 left on the shelf.

I went to the local store specifically for the Platinum Ex. Posted on the shelf was a sign saying the ad was in error, should be the Platinum only, not the Platinum Ex, apolgize for any inconvenience...blah, blah, blah.

I took the Platinum EX with ad in hand to the check out. The clerk asked if I was ready and I told him it all depends and handed him the box. He didn't even hesitate, said it was a printing error but that was what was advertised. He had to call the manager over to override the price. No argument or anything.

It would be different if the the description and the photo didn't match. But, a store cannot expect the customer to know that the SKU number doesn't match the photo and product description. It begins to border upon bait and switch, false advertising...you name it.

So, if you want this deal. I would suggest you go to the B&M with ad in hand, same as me. If it is stocked, take it to a counter, be courteous but firm. You should have no problem. If you get a hard time, ask for the manager, and tell him you want to buy what is advertised. The photo of the box and the product description are very clear. Good luck.

BTW, I wouldn't recommend trying to PM this with BestBuy or CC. I don't consider that ethical to try to get them to honor a CompUSA error (if it really was...don't know about the store anymore...I think think they operate on the edge of what they can get away with). In other words, it doesn't seem fair to me to make another vendor suffer because CompUSA screwed up.

On a sidebar, I must admit that I consider the deal marginal at $129 for the EX model. Creative has their heads up their a** if they think they can continue to sell sound cards in the $100 range with the excellent sound onboard a mobo. I bought this card because of a media center that I am putting together and wanted the break out box for convenience. Does anyone know of a nForce2 mobo that comes with either a break out box or drive bay panel? That would be a cool mobo!!!

People, calm down. Take the ad into a Circuit City, PM, get 10% of the difference back, and be happy. CC won't care if the SKU is wrong. They'll look at the pic and sell you the Audigy 2 Platinum EX

<--PM'd a Santa Cruz on a CUSA ad though it said Santa Cruz 7.1 sound card on it.

The regular or OEM has just the 3.5mm jacks with line in, mike, speaker etc, a firewire, and a gameport bracket. The Platinum EX sounds the same but has an Audigy 2 drive with many inputs and outputs such as Toslink, RCA SPDIF, a front firewire, etc.

See a pic of the Platinum EX on Newegg to see what the Audigy 2 drive offers in terms of ports.

so the only difference is the ports?
for someone like me who is just gonna use 4.1 sound i would be better off with the audigy 2 platinum and not the platinum ex?
