It looks like the Nintendo DS is either up for a price drop in December, or Target is just going to be selling it below MSRP.
I came across this while browsing www.shoplocal.com who post scans of ads, and found Target's "Holiday December Catalog" was posted with a DS Listed at $99. I immediately checked out my local SuperTarget but the DS was still at MSRP and the electronics associate had no idea what I was talking about.
Upon further investigation back at home, I noticed Target still had a "Holiday November Catalog" posted on their website, but a simple edit of their link revealed the December one: http://catalog.target.com/december/new_user_entry.aspx Check out pages 56&57 for the DS ad, though there may also be other stuff of interest.
That all being said, does anyone know when the "Holiday December Catalog" will go into effect? Or, alternatively, will Target adjust the price if I buy now and the ad comes out later?
***UPDATE***
The "Holiday December Catalog" is officially posted on the Target website; the DS is still listed at $99, so it looks like we're cleared of any price mistakes. I contacted a local Target but they were unaware when the pricing would go into effect, though they guessed during the first week of December.
***2nd UPDATE***
Excerpt from link:
"...Target is honoring the ad price of $99.99 if you are able to bring in a copy of the catalog. If you have any trouble at the store, have them call us at (800) 440-0680 and we will be able to assist you then. Keep in mind the catalog price expires on December 12th, 2005."
***FINAL(?) UPDATE***
It is now past the 12th and the catalog price has supposedly expired. I spoke with Target Corporate who claimed that the only people getting hard copies of the catalog were holders of Target Credit Cards. This does not mean if you have a Target Credit Card that you are guaranteed a catalog, it only means that you have the best odds of getting one since I am not sure how they decide who to send them out to.
All items above are being left for posterity; the following link is a scan of the ad since the old one has been changed to reflect the correct price.
Let us know if you have any luck with Target matching their catalog price past the 12th.
