Ran across this last night walking through Bestbuy. They have the Creative sound blaster x-fi extreme gamer fatality series sound card on clearance for $61.99.

Be aware, that with all BB clearances, not all stores switch to the clearance price. If your nearest bestbuy has the card but not the clearance price, then you have the following options at your disposal to try and get the price.

a) ask a manager to price match the clearance price. This is the easiest and fastest method. Depending upon how much an ahole the manager at your store is, this can be easy and pleasant or not. If you already know your local BB manager, then try the next option.

b) Have a sales rep do a item lookup in their system for the sound card. I don't remember the SKU number off the top of my head, so just get the tag off the shelf. When they do an item look up, have them select, "Check Other Locations" to see if there are any other stores nearby with the card on clearance and in stock.

c) If you can't get the manager to adjust the price to the clearance price, and there are no other stores with the card in stock, BUT the other stores have the price listed for the card at the correct clearance price of $61.99 then this can be done. Buy the card at the current store for the non clearance price. Then head over to another store with the cheaper clearance price. Go up to the customer service desk and ask for a price adjustment. Little more work, and depending on how far the nearest BB is with the clearance price it may or may nor be feasible, but it is an option that always works.

Good luck and happy hunting for the card!

I picked this deal up just a few days ago at my best buy... pretty good price for a good sounding card.

With some older games you might need to mess with the alchemy software to enable surround sound, but with the latest drivers I haven't had any crashes or anything. With Vista32 or 64.

Hopefully it's not just cause I'm lucky.

Anyone has the info on which store has it for 61.99...my local BB says they will price match it but they need to verify it.

What's the difference between the regular extreme gamer and teh Fatality edition? Just a brand name or does this have the front panel or something? The regular one was a Newegg Shellshocker a few times for $ 45.00 in the past month and a half......

Pretty sure the Fatal1ty edition has X-RAM (which may or may not actually help in games) and it also has full-sized opamps that you might actually be able to mod with the National Semiconductor opamps (although I have not done mine on my XtremeMusics). It also should include the front panel I/O device IIRC. If anyone gets one and doesn't want the front I/O bay, I'll buy it off of you (I actually would like two)

Do the SB cards still have issues with static/popping/etc on certain chipsets?

HUGE YMMV

As stated above in my original post. If your store is not listing the clearance price, the lowest of which is $61.99, then go ahead and buy the card at the price it is being sold at, which is $127 in your case jdelrio22. Then drive over to the BB that has the clearance price and ask for a price adjustment. They'll do it.

Unless something has changed these particular ones do not have the front drive I/O bay. I recommend this card to a friend late last year for a new build and it seems they've removed the I/O bay on them now and one of the ports is a flex port now too on the back.

FWIW I see these bays on ebay freqently.

Picked it up for 61 on Route 18 New Brunswick NJ. They had like 5 more left.. 4 other best buys in my area were out of stock guess they hogged em all.

Even 61 seems steep for a sound card when integrated works fine but I'll see what all the fuss is about.

Got one in Manhattan, 622 Broadway. They had 3 clean boxes and one that looked damaged. Paid $68.

The card comes without the 'cover' and without the front panel - it's the simplest variation of the model. Going to install over the weekend (migrating to new case). Cheers!

I couldn't play BF2 worth crap with onboard (had to use that for a while after I fried a mobo and then got a replacement mobo that didn't recognize my X-Fi). Complete change when I got a proper replacement and now all is good. Totally worth the money.

Boo. I was hoping it included that danged panel. I would pick one up and throw it onto my XtremeMusic and sell the card.
