This is my first hot deal so please be gentle.

Some staples in the northeast have the following chair on sale for 99.99, even though it's listed as 269.99. So go check your local stores!

Linky

But this deal comes with a story

It all goes back to several summers ago, when I first decided I wanted a nice high-back chair for all the time I sit at my computer in college, it had to be high-back since I was tall. That was like 4 years ago, and I got this old situations chair from staples for 149.99, which they no longer carry, it's the kind with non-curved, flat arms. So while I'm at college I beat on the thing. I like to put my feet up, so often times I'm leaning back in it, and repeated use over time wears on it. Eventually I break part of the metal plate that holds the piston, and I say to hell with it and keep sitting in it until it completely breaks. The piston now had a 4" square piece of steel around it, and the plate on the bottom is broken. So what do I do, a software engineer at and engineering school? Do I try to exhange the warranty after having it 2 years? HELL NO! I find a mechanical engineer to weld my chair back together. So on one saturday morning I meet the best welder in my class, a mechanical engineer, and he shows me how he does it, using a TIG, and explains to me that the weld will last longer than the original steel. Satisfied with this excellent job, I continue to use my chair for the duration of my time at school. Now that I have finished, my chair was breaking again. The only thing that held together the back and the base of the seat in my old chair was the arms. And after much use, I break one of the arms out of the back, so it dangles off the side still connected to the base. I kept using it, i just couldn't lean back in it anymore. I figure if i try, I may be able to fix it. So last weekend, the dangling arm breaks out of the base, and I decide to go look for a new chair.

I Originally found this deal a couple months ago, and thought it's time had passed me by. I was driving up I-91 to VT to go see my dad when I stopped in Brattleboro (the very bottom of the state) to gas up and get dinner. It's so nice because I just got into VT which means no traffic at all compared to all the massholes i just had to deal with. When I come out of burger king, my car won't start, nothing, not even turning over, but the battery is good, i have lights. This happens right when all the garages are closing on friday so I have to check myself into an econo lodge accross the street and get up in the morning on saturday and call all the garages in the area to see if they can fix it. Boy that was fun. I get it towed to a Monroe Muffler, and wait a few hours to get it fixed. This is nice cuz my car's catalytic converter was broke and rattling on the start of the trip.

While I'm waiting for my car to get fixed, I wander the local strip malls. It is freeking cold out so I wander into the staples accross the street. I need a place to rest from all my walking and I find this nice chair assembled at the back, and I chill in it for maybe 20 minutes. I think to myself that it's way sturdier than my old chair, and doesn't feel like i can break the arms or the base as I lean back in it. They were only 99 bucks. But, I go pick up my car, pay an enormous bill and forget all about the chair. I don't come back that way through Brattleboro, so I figure the deal is lost. I even check my local staples back here in NY and nada, I don't see them on the staples website, even under clearance for that price.

So, I was amazed and happy when I went to the local staples this weekend, and they had the same chair on clearance for 99 bucks. They had 2 left in stock, and I rushed home and assembled mine. The guy had to look hard, he even told a previous customer they didn't have any left and realized he was wrong, so he had to really dig. The arms are aluminum, with deep bolt holes allowing a more even support of the arms. And the base plate has a second plate that connects to the back so It's more sturdy when you lean back. The high-back support is good, with padding for the head. The padded arms are nice, but the metal on the arms can be cold at times. My only critique on it is that the chair sits higher than my old one, even when I lower it all the way.

And thus ends probably the most boring story you have read all day.

I have this chair, with a different looking high back, probably an older version. I think I paid $259 for it. I got it about 2 yrs ago, after I got sick of my cheap squeaking chair and it finally broke on me(probably the same situation chair that the OP had! ). It is still holding up pretty well, which I will give it a 9.5 on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, but comfort wise, I will only give it a 7.5, all the thick padding makes the sitting area feels a bit small to my rearend. you really need to try it first to see if this is the right chair for you, but for $99, its a no brainer.

costco has some really nice chair, especially the Mclane office leather chair and the price is somewhere around $100-150. I think that costco chair is better atleast by looking at the pictures.

Quick question...since the clearance price doesn't end with a ".50" doesn't that mean that it's not a nationwide clearance?

Well, its definately not nationwide. I checked in my whole state and none of them even carried them... she said she looked at a few in other states and they were all "inactive" meaning they were online only. That is why they are on clearance right now - they are getting rid of them. Anyone find any locally?
