I was just having a discussion with an admin @ work and I suggested yoga for get chronic back pain and she suddenly said that "I am Christian".
Later she told me that it was taught in her church that yoga is against Christianity...
I was shocked... is it really possible, can a church really teach something like that or was she making it up...

In a lot of people's minds, yoga and the practice of many eastern mystical religions (such as Buddhism) are inextricably linked.

Didn't you know -

Jesus said: "Love thy neighbor [unless he worships a different god, the same god in a different way, or not at all]"

Well, as I said, "some". I don't know why ATOT has a hardon against religion. As long as people are not forcing it down other's throats, who cares?

Bout sums it up. This occurs in nearly every religion I have encountered and turned me to Agnostic.

True. Some of the most "intolerant" posters I have heard on these forums are hardcore atheists...

Yoga is more than an exercize, it is a system of spiritual belief that originated in India, I believe. the intent of Yoga is to realize enlightenment, self-realization, and ones oneness with God (in the Buddhist and Hindu sense). In order to achieve this, one must transcend the phyical and enter an consciousness of spirituality. And in order to transcend the physical, abuot 5 different variation of Yoga evolved. hatha yoga, which is what we know in the US as Yoga, is actually a practice of pushing the body to such great extremes, that one transcends it altogether. Kundalini does it through breathing and opening the thrid eye. There a re a few other forms that follow different paths to the same final destination. Yoga is an entore system of philosophy and beliefs, and you can find many books on the subject.

So, her church is probably aware of the roots of Yoga and therefore prohibits it. In the US though, it is just a form of exercize, so it is kinda dumb to prohibit it.

careful - lots of people don't know what they actually believe in , let alone what other stuff are. She probably thinks yoga , in its modern form, is religious.

just move along and be quiet....

intolerant

Main Entry:
in·tol·er·ant Listen to the pronunciation of intolerant
Pronunciation:
\-r?nt\
Function:
adjective
Date:
circa 1735

1: unable or unwilling to endure
2 a: unwilling to grant equal freedom of expression especially in religious matters b: unwilling to grant or share social, political, or professional rights

Notice how the definition distinctly fails to mention critical forum posts.

Ask her to pray to Jesus. Maybe he's a chiropractor.

My sister did yoga in college for at least one semester. They didn't convert her to Hinduism. Amazing.
No pics.

But hey, stupid people are everywhere. Someone my dad knew said she was Republican. She didn't like it, but said she had to vote that way because she was born to Republican parents. I guess she never learned that you can choose your political affiliation.

And maybe it is "non-Christian." So what? Is her belief in Christianity so weak that a few yoga sessions will sway her to the Dark Side?

I'm betting she has NO IDEA why her church would teach against it. I guess the Baby Jesus wants her to have chronic back pain?

Fail.

Jesus hung around the people who were not following Christian beliefs.
