"Yondr Cases" to be used at concerts and other performances

Hmmm so I have an event to go to tomorrow - and they just sent out a notice that they will be using "Yondr cases" for everyone's cell-phones.

I mean, I get the notion...
1) Some people are dicks with their phones at events. Doing a fucking selfie with facebook snapchat twatter bullshit while the rest of us are trying to enjoy.
2) Some people record and take pictures - something that some artists don't want to happen so it doesn't get leaked on the internetz.
3) Some are just annoying as fuck with bright screens all over the place.

But overall to that I have to say I don't approve and will be cutting that shit open tomorrow as soon as they hand it back to me. The notion that you can police when I have my phone and when I don't is honestly crossing the line too far.

At pretty much every event I've been to - I completely forget that I have a phone for the most part unless I'm waiting in a 20 minute line to get a beer. I have no plans to record or take selfies or any of that other bullshit. I'm certainly not going to try to take a phone call in the main event area considering it's probably too loud to hear the other person anyways.

Anyone else have experience with this shit?

how big is this venue? this sounds ridiculous.

the lock looks like one of those security dongles for clothing, don't you just need a magnet to open it?

you're gonna be bored a long time before the main act starts, i'll bet a large portion of those things are wrecked afterwards.

From some quick 5 minute Google, it doesn't sound like too many people are destroying them. This is definitely a decent sized event.... I mean it's for Dave Chappelle and Jon Stewart so it's by no means small.

Oh and are you sure on the magnet note? If so I'll just bring one of the many tiny ones I have from collar stays. Otherwise i was going to go to the bathroom and cut it open with my keys.

You can still hear it ringing inside the case? So someone can just keep calling you aggravating everyone around you and there is nothing you can do about it.

Crossing the line is destroying someone elses property while throwing a pathetic hissy fit. If you don't like the policy simply don't attend. Problem solved.

Tell me up front prior to purchase and not the night before and I might consider it detective dipshit.

Can't you just cut the case open with a pair of scissors or a pocket knife? It's just cloth.

I don't get this. going to be bored...so turn to my cellphone? I don't understand this behavior. Shows have been going on for decades with downtime. People have been living for generations and generations with downtime, and boredom. Learn to be fucking bored again, people.

I like this policy, only instead I would confiscate the phones and toss them in a shredder if you want to enter. If you want another phone, you have to go buy another one. Or just don't go to the show if you find this is too inconvenient for you.

Can't you just not bring your phone with you?

In this day and age? People would much rather whine like children on the internet. And not having their phone with them? Some folks are beyond addicted to the stupid things. I mean WHAT if someone NEEDS to get hold of you? That's what I hear all the time.

Sounds like a response by old men yelling at the clouds. Its notable because he still has market pull for people to put up with it but I doubt lesser well known personalities would get away with it for long. They're fighting against what is essentially internet connectivity and, historically, that has not been very successful. We're starting to pack things he doesn't want at his shows into watches and glasses. Rings are probably next and you can get hats with bluetooth, speakers and cameras in them.

So it might work for certain people and places now but there is an entire generation coming that has been attached to their phones since age 13 and the consumer market continues to push forward so I doubt this will have a very long life

So you're aware of how annoying cellphones are at events, and you are fine without being with your cellphone and don't even remember having it most of the time, but then proceed to throw a fit the moment it might be taken away for a few hours?

Buy a phone without a camera if you're that fucking attached to it.

This has nothing to do with those things mentioned. Modern smart phones take amazing pictures and video and can record audio very well too. They are cracking down on copyright. They don't want people recording the show in UHD! Now those dumb asses bringing ipads to shows and holding them up, I'd have no problems if they had ushers with pellet guns putting one right through the middle of the screen!

The truth of the matter is that some of us are on call much of the time and need to be available as a function of our job, so yeah, having our phones on us and available is a 24x7 thing. Sometimes we can get others to cover for us, sometimes not, but if being available is a requirement of your job, which, lets face it, many of us on here are techies and are on call for our jobs, there is a real possibility that someone will NEED to get ahold of us and expects a response immediately or within 5 minutes.

That being said, the venue or artist should have made it known about the phone policy before the tickets were purchased so that the person attending could either not buy the ticket or have more time to make arrangements in advance.

Does it count if they record vertical video in UHD? LOL

People can't even deal with being "bored" for twenty seconds at a stoplight

Im with the OP on this one 100%, its bullshit.

1. This should have been mentioned upfront, taking peoples money then springing this on them night before is total bullshit.

2. Some jobs require you to carry a phone 24/7, ive worked a few of these, i dont like to and i quit my last job specifically because of the 24/7 phone issue, but this doesnt change the fact that some people have to carry their phones as a job requirement, it is not optional for everyone.

3. Im ok with kicking people out if they are filming or taking pics or otherwise being obnoxious with their phone. But that shouldnt stop the people who are responsible and follow the rules from carrying their phone, and leaving the main venue room/area to take a call out by the washrooms or wherever is appropriate from doing exactly that.

hasn't this been public knowledge that he has been doing this already? maybe you missed the warning/disclaimer when the tickets were purchased?

That's human error. And now that sensors have more than enough pixels on both x and y axes this 'problem' should not even exist. When they hold the phone vertically and shoot video they should see black bars above and below a properly recorded video in landscape format.

And this was uploaded SIX years ago and yet we still, to this day, have serious, widespread VVS!

Don't just blame people, blame the manufactures and developers!

Even worse is when the media gets these videos they go ahead and use a cropped, blurred out copy to fill in the sides making it even worse.

Nope…they are tired of videos of them being idiots popping up on the internet. They don't want people to see who they actually are and what they stand for.
