Brilliant work there Ensign. I do believe it's time the fleet had the services of a full time Intelligence Officer.

I will personally reccomend you for promotion to "Head of Galactic Intelligence".

I still haven't heard any more on sdgilvey and cowboykran, "who the hell are those guys?":Q

Heh, it's funny the DPC's felt challenged by this little in-house party. Bring on the assimilations, "we have not yet begun to fight" (of course this would be a useful time to start)

My humblest apologies......

Damn well deserved too.

The Americans must be starting to smell coffee and bacon by now. I'm off to bed. 12:45 am here.

Before I go, forgive me, a little story way way OT:

My father called earlier and related a story from my hometown. This is a true story and it happened today.

The world's dumbest (surely) bankrobbers attempted a holdup at a local bank today. (The town's first ever hold-up). The would be thieves couldn't steal a get-away car, so they actually hired one! Next, the actual robbery went very wrong. The holdup man wrote a note on a withdrawal slip while his partner waited outside in the hire-car. The bank teller refused to hand over any money, so the would be robber fled.........leaving his wallet on the counter!!!!!!!

The police arrested the "hardened criminals" less than three blocks from the scene of the crime whilst they were trying to decide what to do next.

I did check, they didn't look at all like MW and dvch on the hunt for blocks

Not to throw this off topic or anything, but i came across this paragraph in my research and decided to ask the Federation guys here.

On 26 May, since COMINT suggested the Japanese intended to approach from that direction, submarine USS Gudgeon (SS-211) sailed for a surface patrol northwest of Midway. Also on the 26th, aircraft ferry USS Kitty Hawk (AKV-1) arrived at Midway with reinforcements for Marine Air Group (MAG) 22, a light tank platoon earmarked for a mobile reserve, and the 3d Defense Battalion, equipped with 3-inch antiaircraft guns. On that same day, Task Force Sixteen (TF 16) under the command of Rear Admiral William F. Halsey, and centered around USS Hornet (CV- 8) and USS Enterprise (CV-6), returned to Pearl Harbor from the South Pacific to begin preparations for the upcoming battle. Although suffering from damage inflicted by Japanese bombs during the 7-8 May Battle of the Coral Sea, USS Yorktown (CV-5) returned the next day.

How come in Star Trek, alot of the ship names are used from WWII? Also, why are the ship designations of USS?
Does the USS registry in the above paragraph mean that the ships come from the US?

If so, does that mean that ST starships come from the US? Hmm...

afaik, absolutely.
ST is a US-centric series, i'm afraid.
but The Federation has US, UK, AU and FR members

No offence taken, Captain Dantoo. Messages pass by very quickly these days, but not as fast as transwarp-blocks.
Thanx to everyone for the kind congrats to both my promotion to Captain and the recommendation for Head of Galactic Intelligence. I hereby accept the nomination and will try to be a good intelligence officer (strategically and tactically ).

Also the USS in Startrek is ment as United Star Ship.
'United' because the full name of the Federation is:
The United Federation of Planets.
This resembles our little Federation of TA, because of all the nationalities involved.
Now let's start and assimilate some bajoran, klingon and Dominion ships. Then we will truly be a United Federation of Planets.

Don't worry about Star Trek being so US-Centric.

One of it's strongest efforts of its producers was to internationalise the series right from the beginning. In 1967 the thought of having a Russian and a Japanese Officer on the bridge of a ship Captained by an American was out there. To add a black female Officer as a major player was courageous in a US market struggling to come to terms with the challenges of race and human rights.

In one episode there was even an attempt to gain understanding of hippies. In fact as I recall, Spock allied himself closely to their cause.

The tradition continued in later series. Jean-Luc Picard (fairly obviously French) surely honoured the exploits of the great submariner Captain Picard of the Trieste.

NASA clearly found some inspiration from the series. Naming a shuttle "Endeavour" was clearly to honour the exploits of the greatest of all marine navigators - James Cook.

You have to understand that these shows are funded almost totally by US audiences. If that audience does not identify and take up the show, we all miss out.
Long live Star Trek - the show itself boldly went etc etc..........

MW! Get your feet off the couch and get your dog off it too.....Oh sorry dvch thought you were MW's dog. What have you been drinking?
