Don't let that influence you. Assume you could easily learn any language.

The question is just as it states.
1. You are moving to another country. Presumably this move is permanent.
2. You are not fleeing because of a crime.
3. Do not let a language barrier influence your decision. Assume you can easily learn the local language.

Where would I move? Probably to Australia. From everything I heard chatting over the net with people who live there its a great place. Fairly low crime. Sane gun laws. Large open country to explore. Great beaches. And almost no F'n illegals.

Edit: Some interesting responses so far. However some people are not putting down why they would choose these countries. Give us a why people!

Why anyone would cite that as a reason to live somewhere is beyond me.

I'd probably move to Sweden. I'm a half Swede and it is a beautiful country with nice friendly people. My Mom has been there a few times and we have distant relatives there.

you're obviously not a gun owner or have an interest in guns.
replace guns with your favorite hobby, now do you get it?

Australia. I've liked every person I've met from there. Beautiful beaches, beautiful land, strict migration laws, New Zealand is close for vacations (assuming I ever feel the need to vacation away from home). Seems like the laws are decent. Though strangely I have no idea what money they use there.

EDIT: once enough people have answered, OP should add a poll for graphical representation of the top 5 or so.

Ireland; hands down. I love the country. English isn't an issue. I just love the country. Great food, great beer, great countryside.

I'd live in the Loire Valley in France. Spacious, beautiful, extremely nice people. I lived there for 3 months over the summer and it was the best experience of my life.

England would be nice too, though I'd be dirt poor if I moved there with the currency ~ $2.25 -> £. The Swiss Alps were so gorgeous to see when flying from Rome -> Paris so that might be a consideration too. Can I just say Europe in general? I love it so much.

I am seriously thinking Ireland also. For the beauty and countryside, it seems like a great place to retire. Also having been to Costa Rica and enjoying it immensely, I am also considering there as well. CR also has a growing number of expat Americans there and they are friendly to us gringos.Plus they modeled their legislative bodies after the U.S. as well as their legal system ( I believe, but may be wrong on that one)

One other country that has piqued my interest lately is Portugal. Again, it has a growing expat community and living there can't be too bad weather wise, I would imagine.

I would say Colombia's Northern Coast, but the gringos are already attempting to take it over.

Conservative in what way? They're just like Canada but with looser gun laws and stricter immigration policies. They still have a welfare state, massive union influence, and legal prostitution.

I lived there for 9 years. Beautiful country.

Question is not why you lived there for 9, but why did you leave?

I wanted to join all the hooligans here in NYC

hey :|

I'm a hooligan only on 2 days - on days when it rains and on days when it doesn't rain

Actually, I own 12 guns. I had a friend who moved from CA to Oregon and one of the reasons he cited was the friendly gun laws as his reason to move. That lasted 2 years and he moved back to SoCal. I still say it's a stupid reason to pick a place to live.

it may not be the most important reason or the only reason, but i'd say its something you should look at if its a pretty important hobby to you.

Big surprise. Why don't you move there already? At least there's a chance we might get less posts of underage girls that you like to gleefully add since you might get your fix there.

With that new fingerprinting & photo system of all foreigners, he'll probably be shipped out quickly.

Yeah, I've got a good friend from Colombia who lives here now. He's always telling me about his country. When I get more free time in a couple of years, Colombia's one of the places I plan to visit.

Meh, that would be like chosing a place to live based on how accessible golf is.

Personally, I'd say that safety, political climate, social climate, ability to find work, ability to support my family and quality of life is far far more important than finding a place with lax gun laws. I'd put that on the list of wants perhaps.

New Zealand:

I like the climate (not too hot and muggy, not too cold). Plenty of beaches. Snowboarding mountains. Populace that likes outdoor activities and lots of beautiful areas to explore. Population isn't too big - no overcrowding. Relatively unpolluted, relatively safe. When I spent time there I found that I felt right at home, and it wasn't just because of the language. I could get a job there.

My hobbies definitely have a big influence over where I live. Sure, the other things you mention (ability to find work, support the family, and quality of life, etc.) are important, but I'm unlikely to live in a place where I can't do a lot of mountain biking. That means: not too cold in winter (unless there's snowboarding immediately accessible to make up for snow on mountain biking trails), not too hot in summer, mountains (or at least high hills), and plenty of local trails.
