You can buy a GT at Fry's... it is right next to GTS

I was just at frys and I saw a whole bunch of 8800GT for 275$ by BFG sitting right next to an OCed 8800GTS costing 599$ (I did a double take on that one since 599$ is closer to the price of a GTX or ultra... but it clearly said GTS on the box...)

(I called them and the guy told me they don't have any... but when I went there to look I saw a whole bunch!)

The only thing I could say was "wow"...
Also I tried talking about this to frys employees... I talked to 10 and not one of them ever heard of the 8800GT... However some were kinda excited after talking to me... hoping to grab a GTS for themselves at 100$ or so when frys realises no will buy them and cuts the price down drastically...

yeah, i hope people start dumping their 8800gts' for like 150, if you can get a new 8800gt for not too much more.

Personally I want the 8800gt for $200 but if these gts owners are compelled to sell their card for $150 I would buy one in a heart beat.

How odd -- Fry's website only lists the GTS. After reading on another thread that someone bought a GT at Fry's, I called my local store and asked about it. The guy I talked to had never heard of the GT either -- in fact he tried to tell me that the GTS is the correct name for the card I asked for.

Sounds like I may have to pay them a visit to be sure. Why is this @#$! card so hard to find?

The 8800GT listings were recently removed. I was on Fry's website yesterday and 8800GTs were available for preorder for $229. This of course brings up questions of why exactly they pulled the listings from their site . . .

That is exactly what happened to me... I called, and he comes back and tells me "Sir I beleive the card you meant was the 8800GTS, of which we have two"... I explained to him what the GT is and he answer "Sorry then, I guess we don't have it"...

I drove to the store ANYWAYS to buy a newtwork dongle and I saw a whole bunch of GT sitting on the shelf, Exactly two cards over from the GTS... And I examined them closely and I am 100% sure they are the GT...

It is also possible that they were told to pretend to not know what it is so that people buy all the GTS on the shelves right now... as I said it was priced at 274$ and sitting next to an OCed GTS 640MB at 599$... so they might be trying to play it down as a "budget card" thats not really worth it to saddle some suckers with their GTS stock...

well.. they get sold out everywhere, but are arriving as soon as they sell out... newegg sold out 3 times... every day they sell out and get more stock the next day, or the same day in the evening... (or they are listing "stock" for items that will arrive at warehouse later... )

Frys has them on the shelves, if you call frys not a single employee heard of the GT and they will try to tell you that it is called a GTS or maybe an 8600... Don't beleive them.. go to the store and look on the shelf, it is there... BFG 8800GT for 274$. (i think it was oced)

I got an EVGA 8800GT at Fry's in Seattle for $270. I got the last one though. The box was kinda tattered looking, which I assume was the reason it was still left. Fry's has an easy return policy, so I figured I'd risk it. I just sold my GTX for $400, so I'm pretty happy about the situation. I played a bit of the Crysis demo when I got the card home, and it's runs like a $270 GTX. I was a tad bit scared the card would be really loud because when you first boot it up it howls for a second, but it gets quiet again, and it didn't get loud while playing Crysis.

keep the receipt... for when the new cards come out in two weeks... you might want to return it and get something better

...or buy another one when the 780i motherboards come out and the price on the 8800GTs dips closer to $200. It's an EVGA, so I can always step-up as well... The world is full of options

I went to the local Frys on Tuesday. There were no 8800GT's on the regular shelves, and there were none in the locked cage with the 8800GTX and other "expensive" videocards. I asked the salesman, who spoke barely intelligible English if they had received any 8800GT cards and he said something in gibberish and shrugged. Knowing the local Frys has a habit of storing/hiding items on very high shelves (30 foot ceilings) I then began to search the very tops of some shelves in the area, when what do I see...half a dozen brand new eVGA 8800GT's for 269. So I summoned the hard to understand salesman over, and made him climb up and get me one. He then insisted on doing one of those salesman sheets that I suppose they get some type of credit/commission for, which I promptly tore up before checking out. I opened the box neatly and have the bag and receipt and I intent to return it once the SSC cards are available.

HHAHAHA... beutiful Stosh68... beutiful.. I love it how not a single person in YOUR store knew what a GT is either... That makes what... 4 out of 4 confirmed frys stores to have a GT and not a single employee be aware of them?

Makes you wonder who stocks them on the shelves. They do it by themselves!

I picked up my eVGA 880GT from Fry's on Tuesday. There was two left. The card was cluttered with other 8800GTS's. In all honestly it seemed I was the only one in the whole store who was excited about the card. With tax I paid $264.xx.

I think the naming of the card truly has a huge impact on the "general" consumer. They are confused and still think the GTS counterpart is a better product then something with a GT on it. Most consumers do not do their research or read about hardware like we do. I am still very shocked that employees at places like Fry's (of all places) have no idea about this new great card. What kind of ppl do they hire anyways?!

maybe thats the point? sell out the stock of GTS cards without any price cuts? shafting unaware consumers?

I told my buddy who is a major computer geek about how I was gonna buy an 8800GT and he told me to pay extra and get a GTS... that he has one and its the third best card on the market... obviously he hasn't been reading reviews... and when I told him there is a new card called GT he assumed it is LESS powerful then the GTS and recommended I get the latter...

Fry's in metro Atlanta does not have the 8800GT -- I checked all the shelves personally this afternoon, including the ones way up top. Ditto Microcenter.
