Agree with this. I've used pentile AMOLEDs before(I would even describe them overall as very pleasant mostly because of the AMOLED aspect) and none of them were as pixelated as the screen on the Droid X2. I liked the original Droid X so much that I was willing to pay full retail to get an X2 and I returned it within 4 days because of the screen.

Amen, I would have bought an Atrix months ago if it didn't have the Pentile. Every time I mess with my friend's Atrix text looks like garbage.

Pentile and the overrated Tegra 2 (or just 512mb RAM on the D3) is killing Moto this year. I wouldn't be surprised that by the end of the year their top selling smartphone is the Triumph.

The Galaxy S II is the first smartphone Samsung has ever produced that was more desirable than what HTC or Motorola had out at the time. The Droid Bionic by itself eclipses the SGSII in more ways than one. This Moto Dinara will probably wreck it in every comparison you could come up with given the release date.

I agree with the first statement.

Besides having LTE, what other advantage does the Bionic have over SGSII?
Here are the disadvantages:
1.) crappy pentile screen
2.) locked boot loader (Oh and before someone goes on a rant about their new announced policy, I'll believe it when I see it. Remember the part where they said "Where operators/carriers allow"? With Verizon, good luck.)

Other notes:
a.) Motorola dumped Tegra for the OMAP4 in the Bionic, so I have no idea if it's better than Exynos or not, but when they had it as Tegra this was in the disadvantage column for Motorola.
b.) Regarding the Motorola Dinara, lets see how it compares to a "Nexus __" since they would be both released in the October-December time frame? We still don't know who is making the "Nexus __" yet.
C.) The only phones on my radar right now are the SGSII and the next "Nexus __" device. I will be getting one of these.

IMO even if its only 3g it will be the best phone released this year

Perhaps, but without 4g it's not an option for me. I think there are many others who are in LTE areas who agree with me too.

If it happens, then it helps whatever I was arguing about then. If it doesn't, my original point still stands and nothing changes.

I'm not arguing for/against either phone. You claimed it won't have LTE, I said is that known? Your comeback was is it known otherwise?

My point which was made in my first and second post was you shouldn't talk as if it doesn't have it when you in fact have no idea if it will or not. /point (for the third time)

Yes, the Bionic has a PenTile screen, similar to the screen (possibly the exact same) used on the Droid 3 and Droid X2. However, this PenTile screen is very different from older designs you may be familiar with (especially compared to older AMOLED PenTile screens.)

There are advantages and disadvantages to the newer PenTile technology. First and foremost, text is crystal clear and easy to read. While the quoted resolution (960x540) isn't the true screen resolution at the subpixel level, this screen still offers better resolution than most 4.3" 800/854x480 screens. Also, color reproduction is top-notch--similar to Motorola's other IPS LCD screens. This does not resemble the early AMOLED PenTile screens in any way.

Now on to the disadvantages. The worst thing about this screen is the "screen door" effect that's visible during animations. I'm not sure if this fault is directly attributable to the PenTile matrix or if it's due to poor refresh rate, but it is definitely noticeable and it's annoying. When swiping screens, scrolling web pages or watching videos, you will see diagonal "stripes" in the image. Once the image stabilizes or the animation stops, it goes away.

If the iPhone 4s/5/whatever they want to call it gets a screen size bump I think it can rival it for the best phone of the year. Also the Nexus _ phone might also be a contender and we shouldn't count out the Windows Mobile 7 phones coming out.

OK, I may have exaggerated how bad it was. When I showed the screen to my wife, she had no idea what I was talking about and thought it looked great. Compared to the screen on her Fascinate and on the original Droid Incredible (AMOLED), this is still better. Of course, I still prefer the SLCDs on the Thunderbolt and Incredible 2.

FYI, if anyone cares, the Bionic will ship with Android 2.3.4 and comes with video-enabled Google Chat. Combined with 4G LTE, this is the first true videophone I've ever used. I have a car mount for navigation, but yesterday I used that to video chat with a friend who was surprised to see me driving! My only gripe is that Google Chat doesn't use my bluetooth headset for conversations (this is unacceptable--Android 3.1 fixed this but why not 2.3.4? I'm hoping this is just a pre-release software issue.)

I don't think anything about this makes it a superphone. It is simply next-gen.

The onlything I would classify as a super phone is an Android phone that last a real 24 hours on one charge.
