In switzerland practically every male above the age of 18 has a government issued SIG SG 550 assault rifle and the government subsidizes ammo. they are even bigger gun nuts in switzerland than you americans.

Actually, Switzerland has pretty strict rules about firearm ownership. More akin to California really and it is really difficult to get a concealed carry permit in Switzerland, you practically have to be working in a security job to get one.

I have a good friend who is Swiss, lives about 20 minutes outside of Zurich. I went shooting with him a number of times when he lived here and when he comes out to visit (they were just here in October). He's a good shot but he's not a gun nut. In fact he never owned a gun when he lived here and the only reason he has one back home is because every male is required to do military service for a period of time when they come of age.

They are much more reserved about guns and gun ownership than you fucking maniacs are.

I am sick of the 'gun control' crowd.

In Canada we are constantly bombarded by anti-gun rhetoric. We have no right to bear arms. Legal gun owners here have to jump through way more hoops than anyone in the US, but gun control fanatics still clamour for more gun control here.

My father used to own 7 guns: 1 luger pistol and the rest various rifles from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. I believe one was a 30-06. My father also used to go hunting in both Northern Ontario and Quebec before he was married. Guns don't scare me. He sold his collection when Ontario and the Federal government decided to make it even harder to own guns.

Over the years I noticed several facts about guns here and it probably applies elsewhere too:

1. gun registries don't stop gun crimes
2. punishing legal gun owners does nothing to stop criminals from getting guns illegally
3. criminals don't obey the law - needed to remind gun control idiots about this
4. people bent on killing someone will find a way to do it
5. gun control only affects legal gun owners

People scream for justice, for something to be done about these extreme injustices. We don't want universal healthcare so we can take care of these fucking loons who do this shit so you tell me, what do we do? Nothing? I don't think that's going to fly Dorothy.

How do you think criminals get guns anyway? For the most part they steal them. Who do you think they steal them from?

I don't remember every male in California being issued a rifle by the government.

If guns are so evil and need to be controlled why haven't you turned all of yours in yet?

Extreme injustices are just whatever gets the most coverage on CNN?

There are plenty of ways children die in the US. Murderous gun rampages are probably the least of your worries.

A lot of illegal guns are ones that were legal at one time but were stolen or profiteers buy in states where it's easy then remove the serial # and sell for a huge profit in areas where it's difficult to buy one. Someone bent on killing someone else can indeed accomplish it but let's face fact, only multiple weapons fully loaded can create the horror like the one at that elementary school..

But at the moment it's also the one that a parent has zero control over, one can take care of a child, be careful, good medical care and this shit happens..

This shit happens how often? Everyday? Once in a blue moon? When was the last time something like this happened? How many individuals did this actually directly affect? 28 people dead, x10 for relatives, 280? Is this significant on the nation-wide level? One could argue the media attention it has received is completely disproportional to its impact on the nation.

Like I must have said 20 times already, this was tragic, but ultimately NOT THE NORM, and hence policy should not be based on it.

That is the dumbest argument ever, and all gun supporters use it. The difference is one product is DESIGNED to kill people, the other is not.

And as I said, I'm not for banning guns. I'm for putting the same regulations on them as we have on other products that AREN'T designed to kill people.

Vehicle registration and driver licenses are required to operate a vehicle on public roads. You can own an unregistered vehicle and drive without a license on private property (in my state, at least).

If you're advocating similar registration policies for guns--no regulation for private use, but licensing required to carry a loaded weapon in public--you'll be happy to know that most states already have that. It's called a concealed carry permit.

As for ammo restrictions, freedom-loving Americans are already outraged by government tracking lists of OTC medication purchases. Let's eliminate that absurdity, not expand it.

So, does registering cars and issuing licenses stop cars from killing people? Does it stop drunk drivers from killing people? Does it stop traffic collisions?

Do we impose bans on vehicles? Do we demand only trained drivers be on the road?

comparing cars and guns is plain stupid.

Gun owners are typically nutjobs. They act like we live in 1800 where "we have to protect ourselves from the big bad wolf outside".

It is 2012. We have incredibly advanced science and technology today. We have sent people to the moon. We have people floating in space 350km above our heads.

Yet for some reason there are nutjobs out there who insist on some kind of animalistic world where if someone steals a loaf of bread from you then you have a right to kill them. They think the solution to too many guns is to give even more guns to those who don't have one.

At the end of the day, humans are social creatures and we can only prosper as a community. Guns only exist to take away lives (of creatures, humans, etc) and destroy those communities.

Yes you can "practice" with them, but what are you practicing for? The zombie apocalypse?

wow...you are seriously fucked up in the head.
we do have to protect ourselves from the big bad wolf outside. The big bad wold just killed 20 kids. who else is going to do it? the police? lol. It would take them 15 minutes at least to get to my house if i needed them. Alot can happen in 15 minutes.

How do you propose a 100 lb woman defends herself against a 200 lb man intent on raping or killing her? call the police?
Where were the police when that sick disgusting piece of shit killed 20 innocent children?

I carry a gun because a police officer is too heavy to carry.
When seconds count the police are minutes away.

So in 2012 we are so advanced but yet we still have criminals and mental cases that are intent on harming us? there aren't any home invasions? no one gets raped or murdered? Why hasn't science and technology solved that?

The police aren't there to protect you. They're there to investigate your battered and blood soaked body after the criminal has left.

What fucking fantasy world do you live in?

They also have a health care system that arguably provides better mental health care to people who need it than we do.

While we have been reducing funding for such care to the mentally disturbed.

Odd huh?

what do we do? Nothing?

Yep.

Nothing is precisely what you do when a rare event happens which is an inevitable possibility in a nation with a shit load of people and personal freedoms.

Personal freedoms are sometimes abused. And?

We bury the children, we give our sympathies to their families, maybe put up a memorial plaque inside the school.

If you want to do something go get a psychology degree and start a website where you offer free therapy to anyone who feels they may be heading toward becoming one of these fuckers.

Or don't get the degree and start a website where psychologists from every state can register and be connected on a local level, anonymously, with anyone who feels they may be heading toward being one of these fuckers. Psychologists who are willing to offer said treatment free of charge or at a dramatically reduced fee, if necessary.

Don't go around trying to take law abiding, sane peoples' right to hunt or defend their families away.

Don't try to use a tragedy as your springboard for shit you fully believed in before it happened.

Don't try to cash in the dead bodies of small children for political chips.

Sometimes doing nothing is exactly the appropriate response. Even to horrible tragedies. Adults know that shit happens.

It's easy to believe there's a problem when it's been happening a lot, Live in a cave much?. Irrelevant anyway, with millions of weapons already out there any point is moot...

"Live in a cave." Do you know how few lives are lost due to shooting sprees when compared to other forms of gun crime, or other things in general?

Yea I was looking at lung cancer rates the other day.

The murder rate in the USA is 1/10th the lung cancer rate in non-smokers.

there is no difference when innocents are killed, no matter how its done.

I'm not "anti-gun," but you gotta admit...there are some awful stupid people out there with guns...

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/l...spond-to-Report-of-Shots-Fired-183661531.html

Authorities in Orange County said shots were fired at a mall in Newport Beach on Saturday during the busy shopping season before Christmas.

One man was in custody after the sound of gunshots caused near-pandemonium, according to shoppers. No one was injured, authorities said.

Newport Beach police said the shots were fired in a parking lot outside the Macy's at Fashion Island mall at about 4:30 p.m. They said one person was in custody and confirmed the mall had been placed on lockdown.

Aerial video showed a portion of the mall parking lot taped off with yellow police tape, and evidence markers were placed throughout the area.

Several people at the Nordstrom and other stores told NBC4 that they had been on lockdown. Several said they heard the gunshots.

More than 50 rounds were fired, a Newport Beach Police Department spokesman told the Los Angeles Times. The newspaper also reported that a 42-year-old male was arrested by officers on bike patrol.

A YouTube user posted video from the parking lot in which repeated shots can be heard.

"I couldn't see who was shooting, but I started to take video in the direction the shots came from while standing behind the car you see in the foreground," the caption said. "My video catches the last two clips he shot and I could finally see him when he shot off the last clip."

Shopper Joe Rubbinaccio told NBC4 he was on the lowest floor of Macy's when he heard shouting.

"I heard somebody yelling. It sounds like an employee. He was saying, 'Lock the store down!' And he was yelling, 'Don't panic. There's been a shooting,'" Rubbinaccio said. "At that point, you kind of freeze. Your heart skips a beat. ... You just panic, you don't know what to do."

Rubbinaccio said he saw many people running, and others said they had heard 10 to 20 shots. Rubbinaccio got away from the scene safely, and had heard one person had been injured in the rush to escape.

Police stopped releasing details after answering initial inquiries.

I would be devastated, and I would blame the criminal 100%. I wouldn't blame his shitty parents, his video games, the rifle he stole, the music he listened to, the bullies who teased him in school, or the system that failed to stop him.

Because the fact is, there are millions of people who go through the same shit every day, and never commit a crime. For every lone psychopathic Call Of Duty player, there are 50 million who realize it's just for entertainment.

gun is dangerous.

the debate some people say without gun how can u protect yourself? well thats an easy question. let me tell..... if gun dont exist.... burgler come at you with just their fist since guns dont exist..... you fight back with fist.... see?

no gun no dead.

existence of guns is dangerous weather you own it or wheather someone else own it.

pretend world with guns..... millions of people fight each other..... then they will use gun as guns is accessible. people dead.

now pretend a world withoiut guns..... millions of people fight each other..... they dont see gun since gun dont exist. they use sticks to whack each other instead and no one dead. well most dangerous they use is knives but they can easily evade. sticks and knives take more skill. guns is for people that dont know how to fight.

His mom might not be to blame directly but having that kind of arsenal around a troubled, completely disconnected young man was not her smartest move, it cost her too, story on Msnbc today that a local gunshop refused to sell him a rifle, they didn't go into details as to why, I'm sure we will know soon enough..

I understand other countries restrict the freedom of their peasants and do not allow for personal defense against tyranny and evil. I do not care that peasants from these countries disapprove of US gun ownership. The US is a leader, not a follower. That may offend some, but I won't sacrifice my values for your feelings. I am a citizen, not a peasant. I live in a country made up of citizens, not peasants.

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen.

The mentally ill and the deluded have spoken.
