I found it amusing the last time I participated in a gun control thread. Initially the pro-gun argument was "you don't know what it's like living in this country" as an argument for guns, then flip-flopped to "it's a great/peaceful place to live because we have guns".

I do not care that peasants from these countries disapprove of US gun ownership.

This latest shooting along with others raise the question of how to keep people with mental issues away from firearms while not infringing on the rights of others.

Pistols kill people just as well as ZOMGALLCAPS-ASSAULTRIFLES; even an effective ban on specific kinds of weapons won't do shit. So the only remaining options I see are a ban on all types of firearms, and keeping guns away from crazies. Genies simply do not go back into bottles, so the only feasible option is to keep guns away from the disturbed.

There are lots of productive ways to do that. We can screen out more disturbed buyers, better suppress illegal (and extralegal) gun sales, take initiatives to improve mental health across the board, and better educate and/or fine legitimate gun owners into keeping their weapons more secure, to name a few. We could also try to suppress all gun sales by making the process more difficult and expensive, but that will only encourage black market and grey market sales while pissing off a lot of people and giving the remainder a false sense of security.

I'm finding it very hard to believe that those individuals wanting to abolish guns or control owning guns to the point of abolishment can't see that they are preaching from the other side of the aisle....as a result of this tragedy.

I'm not seeing how a liberal view is any less objectionable during this time than a conservative person's view of their right to own a gun.

People do kill people is a true statement. A gun is a mechanism...that's it.

Aside from the fact that it's unconstitutional its logistically impossible to collect every firearm in this country let alone the world. If it weren't guns it would be knives. If not knives...clubs.

Don't like the law? ...run for Congress or start writing your lawmakers.

I was mildly shocked to find a block hadn't been in place preventing me from buying a gun.
Had spoke to cops a few times growing up, since all classmates looked at me as potential person who may shoot up a school.
Threatening to kill my entire class in 7th grade didn't help matters at all.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a file documenting that shit somewhere..

Emotional banter? I'm sorry, its just that my heart is broken that small children have become the latest victims of yet another shooting in which LEGALLY purchased weapons were used to murder....and yet again, the gun crowd tries to absolve guns of responsibility.
