Consciousness is more than electric impulses, as our brain is living tissue that is constantly in connection with its surroundings, you will never be able to split the two. Our brain is also affected by nutrients, hormones, past experiences etc. How the synapses grow in regard to what we experience and how we "store" our memory and consciousness is still mostly a mystery.

The easiest answer is that you are meant to do something in this body that can only be done with this body and no one else's. Everyone here has to pass the Test Of Life. Find your purpose and commit to it. Be kind to people and animals. Be grateful for all your blessings and strive to make life easier for the less privileged.
