You found a wallet, now what?

You find a wallet with $37, a picture ID and a few other personal items. Would you keep the money and drop the wallet in a mailbox or hand deliver it? Or would you let sleeping dogs lie and just throw the wallet back where you found it, money and all?

You could consider the $37 a finders fee and having to hassle with taking it to a mailbox. If you deliver it personally with all its contents the owner might be grateful enough to reward you - or accuse you of taking the $100 bill that WASNT in there when you found it.

edit: According to the local parish priest, if the money isnt yours, return it.

If it was very old(weathered, been outside awhile), I'd just keep it. If it was fresh I'd drop it in a mailbox with no return address. I've been in the same situation, and I could foresee very bad consequences hand delivering it, or having it tied to you in any way.

I'd probably deliver it to the police station and try to give them as much detail as possible such as where it was, when I found it etc.

Only if there is clear indication of who the owner is. $50 bucks on the sidewalk is free money, $50 in a wallet with ID in it is OPP.

I don't think so. I've had people steal my stuff before and it's absolutely lousy. I would have loved to have gotten back my stuff complete and undamaged.

Most of the peeps on this forum have less then 37 dollars in savings, I doubt that would happen

Leaving keys in a car is stupid but not considered losing it, therefore to take it would be grand theft auto.
