How do I know that some Senator's child will not take the silver spoon gift they are given and use it to make great good in the world when he or she has the chance?

How do you know that senator's child isn't the next Joseph Stalin ;^)

If I could target the people, you could flip the numbers around, and I'd take the deal, but it might take some effort finding 1b people to fuck over. If it was random, I wouldn't take the deal. I don't give much of a shit about money, but vengeance is priceless :^D

You walk scotfree and with an unbleminished reputation from your crime.

Ha! All you fools that voted yes and were oh so sure have fallen for one of the world's oldest and most classic blunders! You must have all checked your brains in at the door! Just because some random internet nobody or worse, your own mind, told you that you'd get off scotfree (whatever the fack that is! Who is scot?) You believed it? Do you really believe you'd get away with a crime like that? For how long? No consequences my ass. This is one of the reasons why the grand ole US of A has the highest per capita prison population in the world. Because of fools that are oh so sure they can outsmart everyone and get away with it.

Fools with a billion bucks can hire smart people to help them get away with it.

More likely if they really are fools they will just be parted with that money and still not get away with it.

Tiger Woods looks unimpressed with your argument:

A major championship has eluded Tiger Woods for more than five years, but that clearly hasn’t hindered the golfer’s earning power.
The 38-year-old last claimed a major in the 2008 U.S. Open, and since then he’s gone through an extra marital affair scandal that cost him most of his endorsements and a severe title drought. But according to reports the 38-year-old’s career earnings have reached $1.3 billion.

Couldn't keep his extra-marital affairs out of the papers and you're going to get away with 10,000 deaths. Not likely.

You get a chance to commit white collar crime to the tune of a billion dollars. You walk scotfree and with an unbleminished reputation from your crime. But the lives of ten thousand people (shareholders or small time creditors or employees etc. take your pick) are destroyed by your crime.

Most of them will either take to crime, become homeless or even commit suicide, but you walk free with a tax free billion in an offshore account. Remember its all or nothing.

Will you take it or will your conscience not allow you to do it?

I get to pick the 10,000? Then yes, for sure I would.

What's funny is, even after I pointed it out, people are still falling for yet another of the world's oldest and most classic blunders! If it sounds too good to be true it probably is!

Prime example of billions of $ not getting you off scot free:

That only impacts .0000014% of the living population.

So mathematically it's a tiny number but you get 1 billion dollars.

50,000 die a year from the flu. You might be contributing to more deaths walking around with the flu.

So the billion dollar deal seems fair. Sign me up.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. Assuming you invest it wisely and live off a fraction of the earned interest/dividends, you'll be able to donate massive amounts to charity throughout your life and positively impact far more than 10,000 lives, which is a net gain in my book. Plus I get a Ferrari.

What I'm telling you is that:

1) If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

and

2) Even billions of dollars didn't keep Bernie's and Tiger's secrets safe.

Those are two very different things though. Bernie was acting maliciously to defraud people and effectively steal from them. I would not want that to come out if I were ever a loathsome enough human being to do something like that. Tiger? I would have no problem with a list of chicks I banged getting released to the public.

Of course I always assume nothing is secret anymore, so eventually everything will come out. As soon as more than one other person is involved, it is no longer a secret; that shit always comes out eventually.

I think I would. With a billion, I could probably easily enrich and even save the lives of 100,000 people or more. I would keep half of it of course. That's my justification taking it.

Why do you need to get away with it? Kill the right 10,000 and you're a hero. Hell, kill millions and some idiots will worship you as a god.

lol skip the justifications and just say yes. Although what others are suggesting is very true, the devil's in the details.

If the OP means 10,000 people go kill themselves (or others) due to the depression, then I'd probably have to change my answer to no.

I'd like 'ruin lives' to be defined.

If it's 'ruin lives' in a current African or 3rd world context, I'd say emphatically NO. If it's 'ruin lives' based on our spoiled first-world-problems world, I'd have to think about it overnight.

I'd like to say no, but hell yes I would be tempted....who wouldn't? And depends on severity of destroyed. Also as bad as this sounds, but if I did not know any of the people, and wouldn't know who they were ex post facto, that would weigh in as well. But if like OP were people commit suicide and put families on the streets, I could not. Not worth that.

You mean you never considered those 10,000 people might have friends and family that care about them and might seek vengeance upon you?

People have killed over less, like imagined deities. Look who killed John Lennon. A religious nutjob that admitted he was angry that John Lennon blasphemed his beloved religious figure:

Three months prior to the murder Chapman allegedly started planning to kill Lennon.
He had been a big Beatles fan, idolizing Lennon, and played guitar himself, but turned on him after becoming born-again; like many born-again Christians, he was angered at Lennon's comment that the Beatles were "more popular than Jesus." In the South there were demonstrations, album burnings, boycotts, and projectiles were thrown. Some members of Chapman's prayer group at Columbia High had sung a twisted version of Imagine referring to Lennon being dead.[7] Chapman's childhood friend Miles McManushe recalls him referring to the song as "communist". Jan Reeves, sister of one of Chapman's best friends, reports that Chapman "seemed really angry toward John Lennon, and he kept saying he could not understand why John Lennon had said [that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus]. According to Mark, there should be nobody more popular than the Lord Jesus Christ. He said it was blasphemy."[11]

Imagine there is no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will live as one
