They are, but this is more about being obedient to the love of money IMO.

Check out the obedience experiment done at Yale university in the 1960's.

Folks unfortunately do what they are told in a lot of circumstances even when causing harm to another, money has the threat of requiring all kinds of absurd obedience to please.
