You guys did great last time, so how about another round of "ID this guitar"?

Guy can't find a serial or anything else, just says he thinks it's "old". It looks like early 70's to me, but I am having a hell of a time finding this exact configuration to put an accurate date on this thing. He's not asking much for it, so I am seriously tempted provided it's an actual SG and not some halfass knockoff or something.

As far as if it's real or not, that's not my arena, but that's the look of it alright.

Typically the deluxe has block inlays and humbuckers but this has p90s and dots.. it's not unheard of that it could exist though. The black guard on the knobs in the half circle gives it away as this period

Any clue what it might be worth? I can't get a good feel from the interwebs. I find some stuff with people losing their minds over Gibson stuff from this era and others with people disparaging Gibson stuff from this era.

Google~Fu confirms SG Deluxe - It was a more bargain version of an SG Standard - which makes it less desirable. But it was also only made for a few years - which could possibly mean something to the right collector.

Gibson's serial numbers went all weird in the 1970s, but there's a tool and .pdf's available there which you can use to confirm.

The pics from the listing are all I have. I don't want to bug the guy unless I'm serious about the guitar, and I'm currently on the fence. It's neat, but I'm not sure it's really worth it.

Yeah, interesting, it's the non-deluxe version called the Pro. I knew it was supposed to have block inlays

A lot of those 70's Gibsons had 3 piece laminated necks and they experimented with a volute on the neck behind the headstock. If you can look at the end grain of the body, you may find it was made of 6 pieces. 3 horizontally and 2 vertically. A friend of mine has an early to mid 70's Les Paul that is made that way. He thinks it's awesome. I wouldn't give him $1,000 for it. Not REAL collectible right now, but it may be in the future. The 70's weren't very good years for either Fender or Gibson.

Yep, that is a 71-72 SG pro, not one of my favorite models, kinda ugly but still worth at least $1k IMO
