The sun shade would also keep your dashboard from cracking or peeling if you don't have a dash mat.I left the windows open when I came back from lunch. Probably about a half inch. I don't have shade in my work parking lot so it's just sitting there baking. I thought about getting a shade but like you guys, I'd probably use it for a few days/weeks then say screw it.
That's another reason for a sun shade. It makes it harder to see what's inside the car.If you have unnecessary windows, you can block them out, and it probably helps a little. I have a third of my rear window blocked by wood, and the driver side rear window is covered in translucent mylar. I do it for heat, and to make it harder seeing what I have inside. Probably easier in a truck.
I don't keep car long enough to worry. And I keep them like a decade. Never had an issue with 3 cars.I specifically sought out the version of my car without a sunroof, because I plan to keep it a long time, and sunroofs leak eventually (or have other issues). Had them on a few cars, very much over-rated IMO. I have my Miata for when I want the open-air experience.
