I think perhaps you don't really understand the role and powers of the Chief Justice. Other than assigning which Justice get to write majority opinions the Chief Justice has next to no significant power. I'm not a big fan of Roberts (to put it mildly) and I think his feeble attempts to run interference with the Senate re the Court's very real ethical problems are misplaced and wrong, but I think your criticism of him in this case is unjustified. What do you specifically say Roberts can do about Alito (and Thomas for that matter) that you contend Roberts is derelict in his duties for failing to do so?

Alito might as well just come out and say he is a religious extremist, so compromise is out of the question because as a religious extremist, we need to control other people, so Democracy is not an option for me.

Can't stand what's become of this court, this asshole's zeal in particular for killing stare decisis, thus the integrity of the court itself. The blatant corruption with him and Uncle Thomas too. Funny that they both seem to have a *Borat* my wife problem. SCOTUS has to get fixed, but won't be unless Congress is first. Taking away a woman's Constitutional right to have an abortion may be the one thing that ends up allowing that, I hope so anyway. I mean, they really fucked up on that one.

Allowing a corrupted court that's dominated by a religious, politically activist minority take this country back to the 50s isn't a viable course of action. They betrayed women with their overturn of Roe v Wade, and they betrayed the whole damn country by giving Trump a free pass on the 14th amendment. Four more judges, an enforceable ethics code, and how about seats good for 20 years, max. No more lifetime appointments.

I fear the likes of Alito and Thomas will never hang up the smock though. We'll have to wait for coronary heart disease to enter the chat I think.

Fundamentalist religious faiths of all kinds are inculcated most frequently in childhood although fanaticism can strike at any age where the need for self validation via an outside authority becomes desirable say after some blow to the ego. The fundamentals of fundamentalism is that there is one truth to which only you and the like minded are privy and all other isms are inferior and of secondary importance. What this means is that many on the Supreme Court who are fundamentalist religious believers joined the court under the pretense they did not have a prior commitment to a religion that was more important to them then secular law and the Constitution. They lied to the Senate to acquire the office. They, like Thomas who is in it for the bribes, have no real personal integrity but rationalize their duplicity under the notion they are serving God. Such people in the service of their own ego needs have shit on the American people.

Sure. Not sure how that's distinct from what I wrote, but I'll bite.

I'll say, the biggest thing is we cannot have the crazies who want to overthrown Democracy. We cannot have them in majority control. Or even blocking a thing with a minority of seats. That buys us time to hope for a better outcome. I don't see one, but I'll try to always leave open a door, or window, for it to occur. In this case, maybe it is a little mouse hole.
