I know your mom is proud of you, but I think that since fast food is such a good job she'd be equally proud of you if you were pushing burgers at mcdonalds. In fact, wouldn't you be equally proud of yourself?

Like I mentioned, self-righteous bordom; you KNOW working fast food as an adult sucks balls, so why are you pretending like it doesn't? You're being disingenuous.

Christ, you people are too anal retentive Obviously it's possible this guy may have something else going on. Maybe somebody said if he works there for an hour he wins a free car. Or maybe he needs one more year behind the counter and can retire on a $100k/year pension.

But, more likely is that he's simply a lazy ass who never got himself a good job. So, while anybody can come up with an unlikely scheme about the reason he's working there the most reasonable assumption is that he is, in fact, simply an old guy who's never had a better job. It doesn't mean he should be shot or doesn't deserve to breath; it means that his job is pitiful.

You high and mighty folks won't be happy being 40 working drive through will you?
Your right, Skoorb clearly think's he's f**king elite or something with that statement.
No more elite than the other 250 million people in the US who've risen above the lowliest form of labour. It's really not hard to have a job better than fast food. Are you upset that you've not even been promoted to drive thru yet?

I have worked in fast food. Yes it sucks, but I also met a guy who just came out of prison, and it was a good way for him to start working back up again, given that he was only young himself...it gave him a good chance to prove and improve himself, which he did. And yes mom is proud of me

To echo every other post, at least he is working. You have to consider that everyone is not as smart as you and SOMEONE has to do those jobs. If everyone were = to you, there'd be no one to order from.

What pisses me off is that anyone with ANY measure of intelligence DOES eventually get a better job. The reason this is irritating is becuase that only leaves the REALLY stupid ones who constantly screw up my order. Last night the guy at KFC did NOT understand what "spicy wings" were, told us he "didnt speak english" and he would "get someone else to help". Seriously, wtf? However, if they WERE any smarter, they'd have a real job. Bottom line, dont insult the guy, he is exactly where he is supposed to be. It isnt a failure if its the best he can do.

To be fair, you also have to consider that sometimes people have hardships, get laid off, etc, and are forced to work at some low-life job to feed themsleves or there family. Therefore, you cant just judge someones life a failure because you saw them at a fast food resteraunt at 40. Maybe at 45, he will be back on his feet with a great job again. You dont know the details. However, you also cant consider a person a failure who is a fast food lifer at 40, because thats obviously the best they can do and *SOMEONE* needs to give me my burger. Yes, they are a failure by YOUR standards but not necessarily by theres. The only person who can declare you a failure is YOU.

Due to lack of ambition or whatever he has a crap job with probably not enough money for an internet connection. So it's better than food stamps. So what? If I only steal twice/month it's better than stealing five times/month. How fvcking lazy can you be to be a grown adult out of your 20's working in about the lowest job in a fast food joint?

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one Skoorb. You really do not know this guys story whatsoever. How many people on this forum alone have been unemployeed for months? Instead of being unemployeed for months, this guy could've taken a part or full-time job at the fast food joint just to have some money until he lands a decent job.

Also, some people who are retired are not allowed to take jobs that result in an income of over a certain amount of money a year, otherwise they lose their pensions. For example, since my father retired a few years ago at the age of 47, he is not allowed to take a job that makes over $30,000. My father does handy-man work with a friend of his and doesn't have to take a job at a fast food joint, Target, or any other of those stores because he has a craft. So maybe the guy is just having a part-time job for a little extra spending money because he doesn't have a craft or thats all he can find.

Also, I'd rather have this guy have some drive to better himself, however small it may be, then to simply give up on life like so many other thousands have done.

I'm sorry, but judging people without knowing their stories is just assine.

I Agree Skoorb you are way off base on this one and also you sound like you are related to th OP.

I've grown up in a family where most of my mother's family lives on or below the poverty line (though my mom has her masters degree in education) and my father's family is full of educated professionals. It's a strange dichotomy to grow up with and yet it's taught me both a respect and an admiration and a realization that some people, no matter how hard they try, will never really rise above menial or minimum wage work. We are all delt certain lots and we all carry our own burdens.

McDonald's IS a job, it IS an income, and it's enough to survive on for a short while. Many people may find themselves between jobs at certain points and McDonald's is the only option open or the only option that fits with their schedule. Even if they're not in dire straits and this is their living, so be it. IMO it's nothing to turn up your (or my) nose(s) at.

You couldnt be more wrong. I trully hope you never have to take a job that is beneath you to survive.

A guy my wife works with has a job delivering pizza during the weekend and mornings mon-fri. He puts in close to 30 hours a week on the job. PLUS his 40 hour $45k year job. why? One of his kids is really sick and needs expensive medicine that insurance will not cover.

He needed a job that would let him have the hours he needed. He has to be able to take a day off for doctor visits or whatever and pull in a few hundred extra a month. This is a perfect job for him.

Just because a guy is working at fast food does not make him a loser. You never know what a man has gone through. To call the guy a loser just shows how much of a elitist a person is.

I spent 6 months working at MickyD's as an adult, I didn't think of it as being a "loser" I thought of it as trying my best to support my family during a rough time.

Btw, MickyD's offered me very flexible hours, unlimited OT oppportunitities, and enough salad and chicken to keep my kid and I fed.

Give him a break. He clearly does not have the highest mental capacity...but at least he shows up for work and tries to provide for himself.

Get over your elitest attitude.

LOL yesterday I worked 19.25 hours,
this morning when I bought a coffee I handed the cashier a $10 and started to walk away,
she said,"Hey you want your change?" I was so tired I said "uh what change."

Maybe the Wendy's employee was tired.
Maybe he is not the smartest person with math.

As I get older I try to be a little less of a "moron" but, still at times,I complain about stupid crapp, too.
