you and your friends built 20ft plywood ramps and freestyled your BMX bikes long before it was recognized as a sport.

you did this WITHOUT any gear because who the hell wore a helmet on a bike back then?!

cereal boxes actually had toys in them instead of making you send in 3 UPC symbols.

you ate "Surgar Smacks" instead of just "Smacks"

KFC was known as KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN

a large chocolate shake from McD's was a LARGE chocolate shake instead of a medium.

you know what Cabage Patch Kids are.

you know the meaning of "Go ahead punk, make my day."

your parent's car had imitation wood panel interior, or side paneling

the attention span of the average television veiwer was longer than 30 minutes.

you remember the Rubix Cube craze

you tried to impress your friends by "solving" the Rubix Cube by prying the blocks apart.

you know the meaning of "De Plane, De Plane!"

you remember David Hasselhof as being synonomous with KIT, not bikini-clad lifegaurds.

you listened to "Alternative Music" when it was still underground.

you know who Spuds McKinsey (sp?) was.

Rock Me Amadeus!!

<< U2 was cool >>

What do you mean by was? They still are cool!
but yeah, how could we forget parachute pants!

As to the Happy Meal thing: My son gets a Happy Meal at least once a week and it's always in a bag. I think Burger King's kids meal sometimes comes in a box though, but maybe not everytime. Depends on what sort of movie they are marketing.

LOL! Just take your kids to BK. Even my son says that their toys are cooler than the ones McD's gives away.

That did take some getting used to I admit. But they "returned to thier roots" with thier latest album. I just saw them in concert and they still rock! I guess I'm too much of a die-hard U2 fan; I'd still love 'em no matter what they did.

Those were some good ones though! "Smear The Queer" OMG! I had forgoten that there was such a phrase!!

Maetryx here,
Ah yes.... the eighties

Don't forget:
Ocean Pacific (clothing brand)
Vans (slip on shoes)
Converse aka Hi-Tops
Stryper, the very first Christian heavy metal band
Pac-Man the game AND the Saturday morning cartoon
No pain, no gain
Smurfs
My Little Ponies
Mon Chi Chi
Snakes (the foldable, jointed polygonal plastic toys that could be folded into different shapes)
Summer Olympics in Los Angeles (1984)
Wine Coolers were new
candybars cost 25 cents
Pop Rocks blew up your stomach if taken with soda pop
collectible cards came with sticks of bubblegum that tasted like cardboard
Who you gonna call?

I don't know if BK had the crowns anymore or not. That would be interesting to find out though.

I'm 16 and I'm recognizing a lot of this stuff.

About this whole McDonalds thing...They haven't used boxes in a while I thought. I liked those boxes. There would be a maze and some other games on there. Oh the good ole days...

I remember the BK crowns about 3 years ago, but haven't really payed attention lately. Quick someone, run down to BK to see.

crap, how could I have forgot PacMan!

and Ms PacMan

the Challenger space shuttle tragedy

the assisnation of John Lennon
(these last two are examples of events within a decade that everyone remembers where they were when they heard the news. Like JFK in the 60's and the Oklahoma City Bombing in the 90's.)

the hyped-up fear of nucular war

either you, or someone in your neighborhood had a fallout shelter in thier backyard.

AIDS

"We Are The World"

carbon paper replaced by Xerox (the misuse of the brand name when referring to photocopies or a photocopier even though the machine may not have been made by Xerox. This still happens today though not as frequent.)

The Dukes of Hazard

The Six Million Dollar Man (syndicated in the 80s)

The Incredible Hulk

The Fall Guy

Airwolf (and you were later shocked to see Jan Michael Vincent had become a crazy-eyed drunk!)

Magnum P.I.

The A Team

and you had a lunch box of one or more of these shows.

Porky's

Revenge of the Nerds

Rambo

Rocky

Cherry Coke

The Pepsi Challenge

Michael Jackson sets himself on fire for Pepsi

the extravagent use of Velcro

the Walkman

Cindy Lauper
