Your freezing in your room, trying to do work and inorder to warm your self up, you turn up your case fan to max speed and run prime 95... The room this occured in is a 3,270.375 cubic foot room. (Dimensions are 17X19X11.5 but with a top of 2.25ft.)

I heard rumors you could use P4s as space heaters, but had never actualy seen a report of it until now.

Some observatories on mountains, where it gets downright freezing, don't even use heaters. They have a room full of computers that keeps the place very pleasant.

you can feel your left hand going numb because the left side of the computer is hot because of the processor

No it's not that cold though it's likely that the case fan in the back that is exhausting the heat from the case is creating turbulance therefore disspiating the heat. All I did was run prime 95 on my machine and run the case fan at full blast, 20 minutes later the room was satisfyingly warm enough. It's starting to get a bit cold in here agian and I may run prime 95 agian... The only way that would happen mzkhadir is if I were to put my hand directly infront of the case fan in the back which is probably like 90* at least.

I have three machines running all the time in my "office:"

P4 3.2 GHz (two HD's, 6800 NU)
P4 1.8 GHz (two HD's)
PII 300 MHz (One HD)

The heat is off & the window is open in ~40 degree weather & it's almost uncomfortably warm in here. The rest of my apartment is freezing ass cold.

I have a fourth system I need to get running (Barton 2600), with that I shouldn't need heat all winter.

I ran 3 systems at home + 1 laptop + my parents laptop in a room all through summer. If you have the right air circulation and the right windows facing the right direction. temps will never go above 80 even on a 100+ degree day. Oh.. I don't have AC downstairs either. Open windows at evening/night, close them as the heat starts coming in for hte morning, leave the computers on, go to work, come back.. gets a little warm, then open the windows again.. =)

Hmm, and I thought I had poor case ventilation...

Temps right now are 45C (Processor) and 32C (Case), the 120mm blowhole fan is just blowing out cool air though. My 19" CRT puts off the most heat. Even with UT2K4 running for long periods of time the air still isn't that warm.
