You know you're old when...

Moved from the Baseketball thread....

I first realized how old I've become when I was playing guitar for some teenagers a few years ago. I've been playing since my 13th birthday in 1987, and quit playing when cool guitar parts became less and less important in rock. So the most recent stuff I know is the grunge era, which still feels fresh to me. Sure, I keep up with modern music, but I forget how long ago grunge was. So I realize these kids probably won't recognize some 80's Van Halen or Metallica songs, so I played some Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, and Pearl Jam. They didn't know a single song. No Plush....no Alive...no Cherub Rock. Then it dawned on me. These kids were born in the early 90s, why would they know songs from 92-95?

So it's always funny to think about things that I don't consider old, but are nostalgic to teenagers today. I remember in high school, rediscovering music from the early 80s, like Journey, Queen, Foreigner, and movies like Fast Times, Weird Science, etc. So at the time (1992), those things were about 10-12 years old. So today, things from 1995-1997 are "retro"? LOL! Alanis' first album. No Doubt's "Tragic Kingdom". Baseketball. What else?

Yeah, that song's old now too, but I think it was "quarter".

Seriously though, it's not an interesting topic until you can relate to it. Around 30 or so.

I realized it when I used the term "a few years ago" and it was actually 10 years ago...

Here's a razor, cut yourself and save us from having to listen to you.

Yeah recently I've noticed I'm getting older, though probably not nearly as old as you guys. I find that I'm dispensing more advice than I'm asking for it.

Any "Classic Rock" station that played the crap that either of those bands released really needs to go out of business.

Can't stand Nirvana and the only half-decent Pearl Jam song was a third-rate cover of a 1960's Ricky Nelson pop song. Friggin' kids and their music these days.

So, you ask, what's good music?
Boston
Moody Blues
AC/DC
Aerosmith (the early stuff)
Rolling Stones
The Who
RUSH
The Eagles

No, I'm getting asked alot about how to get women, but now that you mention it I kept getting asked how rich people spend their money. But I wouldn't know. I'm not rich.

I agree with you (not a Nirvana or Pearl Jam fan), but you proved how really old you are!

Hell, I remember it when it was a NICKEL!

No, it's a Travis Tritt song from the 90's. "Here's a quarter, call someone who cares". I thought it was ironic that their rude comment also could mean a relavent post, regarding that song.

It occured to me the other day that Forrest Gump came out in 94/95 and it seems like it was only a few years ago

I've always had a color TV, but I do remember not having cable yet, and getting the 3 networks, and maybe 1 or 2 local independent channels on UHF. It was exciting to watch late night movies or marathons on national holidays (like Twilight Zone all day on Memorial Day or something). Even Jerry Lewis' telethon was fun to watch. Now with 200+ channels, those things aren't as exciting.

This first happened to me after undergrad, when I shockingly learned that then-college students had never seen Forrest Gump.

We used to have a remote control for our cable box. It had a wire.
I remember going to a video store with my dad and they had a VHS section and a Beta section.
I recently had the urge to tell a neighbor's kids to get out of my yard.
