I've been living in this place for 5 years but I was absolutely not expecting to live here this long. I moved here for work and they kept telling me oh we're going to move you by then, or then, or then... but it's never happened. I never bothered to make friends as it seemed pointless... but now I'm regretting that.

So I've finally realized maybe I should try to meet some people around here. I've tried to play some drop in hockey but it appears nobody plays. Hockey is really the only sport I'm good at so other sports aren't an option.

I already have a fiance (living back home till she's done school) so it's not like I can use a dating site to meet women.

My coworkers aren't a great option as they mostly live far away and commute into town.

It doesn't help I have huge social anxiety when I'm meeting new people.

You mean to tell me that you have no real life hobbies? Maybe its time to pick something up, like ice fishing.

I recently joined a naturalist organization, we donate our time to community projects. In 2 weeks we are going to a local river to clean up some camping sites.

1. Drive around to find a random party on Friday/Saturday night. Just listen as you drive around.
2. Crash that party.
3. Masturbate furiously.
4. PROFIT!!!


Seriously - Is there a library? How about volunteering after work somewhere. At minimum you get some human contact - even if you don't make friends.

Adult Education doesn't necessary mean taking college classes but also cooking, photography, guitar, etc. which aren't that expensive.

No no, I live about a 3 hour drive away from her. I spend most of my days off back at home with her, so I see her about 10 days a month. I'm still friends with all my friends back home there...but I probably should meet some people here.

Take up Magic: The Gathering. Unless you are in a tiny town, you can probably find a game or two a week and meet lots of people. If you get good, the hobbie pays for itself.

My wife and I took a photography class 2 years ago at the local college.

Volunteer, seriously. I've been back in my little small town two weeks, and while I do already know people here, I've met almost as many new people by expressing interest in volunteering with some organizations. Been asked to join the board of a group that brings classical music artists in for concerts, and I think I'll be lending my HR expertise to a group that helps older teenagers gain job skills.
