I see this all the time. People constantly trying to view life through someone else's shoes, sizing up their own life, etc.

I think you just got to pick a course and make the best out of it. Quit worrying about what others think.

Anyway, I read it and enjoyed it.

What's longer Gardens of the Moon or Better Nate than Lever?

My friends all have kids, and all constantly tell me how great they are, yet are always tied down because of the children from doing many of the things I can do with my free time. My one friend with 4 kids (and a 5th on the way) has sat there for hours trying to explain to me the joy of children but it's like the article says; the rewards are intangible to someone without children. In ways it does remind me of people that go to church trying to convince me to convert to one religion or another. They say there are all of these benefits but as an outsider I just don't see the benefits. There are already so many people in this world that I have a hard time giving myself a reason to have children, and with the population blooming there are rough times ahead when the resources start drying up.

Do you have a dog?

No

I don't have a dog and my wife and I also don't want kids, is that okay?

Yes very OK, you're not writing elitist pieces patting yourself in the back for your decision not to have kids (it's not for everyone). I was just asking about a dog to relate to the utility gained from a canine relationship (although not exactly the same as child, but still same in terms of be "intangible"). It's silly to not want kids because he can't relate to the intangibleness of the descriptions of having one by his friends.

For the love of god...stop being so defensive...you are exhibiting the exact behavior he was writing about...in the same way his negative attitude about marriage follows the behavior.

we took her away from that income, what are we supposed to do? It would cost more outside, plus they would be strangers who definitely won't care as much. Taking care of 2 infants at the same time is not easy. She's here full-time so she also cooks and cleans too.
